Default Opinion regarding extended service contract

I have recieved what I think is a good price on an extended service contract with my dealer. My question is: Does anyone else have one and used it? What is your opinion?

I purchased the 100K mile contract since I know I'll be putting on a lot of miles going to work (about 60+ per day) as this is a daily driver. I plan on keeping my car for over five years, and need the extra miles/protection. That's just me though.

There was another thread on this before and I think some prices were about half that much with no deductible. You might want to do a search. This is the dealer's bread and butter they make a lot of money on extended warranties so there is room to deal.

I've got it and it paid for itself immediately. At a little over 36000 miles my airconditioner had to be replaced as well as my rear window and some other minor things. Total cost to honda, $3,500! Total cost to me, $0.00. 'nuff said.

If I remember correctly, roughly the same as you were quoted. I don't remember a deductible though. I guess I need to re-read the contract!

I personally don't buy extended warranties for the manufacturer. I buy them from outside sources. They are usually cheaper and give you the option of using any shop you want. The main problem I see with using the manufacturer extended warranty is if they decided it isn't covered because of some BS excuse, your stuck. If you buy aftermarket, all you have to do is find a shop willing to work with you. I've seen 10year/100,000 mile warranties for less than $1000 on the net.
