Not sure if this goes here or Car Talk but,
How wide of tires will fit (or have you been able to install) on the stock S2000 rims? I will be needing to re-tire shortly and would like to try a wider rear tire but am unsure as to the technical implications and limitations of deviating from spec. Any suggestions? I would like to go with larger rims but am generally dismayed by the cost and with changing the stock appearance of my car.

I really don't know if it help you but,
I'll be puting 17" BBS LM wheels 7.5 inches wide in the front and 8.5 on the rear. 215/45-17 front and 245/40-17 on rear. The tire sizes were given to me by BBS directly.

For the stock rims, you could fit up to a 245/45 on the rear. I have tried 225/50 on the front and it doesn't fit, but I would imagine a 215/50 would if you're up to trying it. However, I recommend staying with the stock sizes and using S-02's as I have found this combination gives the car the best balance and handling.

My second set of tires were Kumho 712's with 225/50's in the front and 245/45's in the rear and they fit with no problems. The reason my 225's fit in the front and Rev's didn't may be because all tires are not created equal. Several of our members have found that our stock 205's are not as wide as you would expect a 205 to be and that our 225's are much wider than expected.

My 3rd set of tires were stock S02's again and they did give me a much better balance of ride and handling. The 2nd set of tires had less grip which allowed much more wheelspin out of turns causing me to have to replace them after just a little over 3300 miles.

Yeah, I have seen a set of race tires with 225/50 front and 245/45 rear that fit a little better than mine did, but it was still bulging out quite a bit. With mine, it just looked downright funny. The stock 225/50's are just too wide for the front rims.

Im going with 245/45 rear Potenze RE730 and 225/50 front, I have them and it looks tight for the front but their specs are said to be able to mount on as small as 6" wheel

Besides the OEM those were the widest tread I could find to fit the stock wheels (within .1" of the others) Ill find out about looks/performance this weekend.

BTW I am checking out tread patterns/contact patches and will have a report for S2000 owners about replacements.

I have already been through BFG Comp T/A, and the Bridgestone Pole Positions, now to try the RE730's

let me specify that the RE730 225/50 r16 are suppoed to be able to be mounted on a 6" wheel and the RE730 245/45 r16 only go down to 7.5"

Nice pics Chris.
So it looks like the stock stagger is something like 45-50mm (195 vs 245) or the rear is approx 25% wider than frt. Very interesting

So for all you folks running 225's up frt, you do the math (hint 285's) and quit crying about the oversteer.
You brought that shit on your self baby.
