Default Too Cold - Split the roof

Having just watched an episode of top gear i was too eager this sunday to get in my car and go for a blast...only problem is - it was -2 degrees and when lowering the roof an almighty crack behind my head scared the life out of me! Plastic screen split from side to side.

What does everybody think? New Plastic one or new glass replacement? Or replace the whole roof - car is a 2001 and it is showing some sign of wear. Any ideas of costs/places to get it done? I'm guessing Honda will be very expensive?

Many thanks in advance.

W

Sorry to learn about your mishap, a lesson to us all, plastic or glass windowed.

On vey cold mornings to ensure the hood folds easily and completely I always get a good fug going by heating up the interior & thus the roof fabric, before activating the folding process.

Consider that on an older car the expense of a brand new hood is disproportionate to the cars value, & being spanking new might look too obvious.
A good car upholsterer may be able to install a new plasict window in-situ.

I suspect Honda want massive bucks & no doubt there are budget routes available, & a member will be along any minute to advise you.

Good luck

If you get a new one, you can always go for the mohair options. Go on, you know you want to

has anyone taken their car to a high quality trimmer

I'd be surprised if such a person could not make a repair

there are specialists than can sew a new window into a roof, look for some details in classic car sites or mags.

Edit:
A couple of minutes of googling and here's one example:
http://surreycarinteriors.co.uk/convertible-hood.html

never used them or any others that do this but it's been comon practice for owners of older classics and replacement MG lids are way cheaper than modern cars.

Yes i took my car to a guy in preston, who replaced the plastic window the plastic windo he replaced had a slight blue tint to it (IIRC its better for glare or something like that).

I have got to say, it was a fantastic job he heat stamped it etc.
