Default Car beeps at me, even after I remove the key

If I take longer than 5 seconds to pull my key out of the ignition after turning the engine off, the car will keep beeping as though the key is still in the ignition. If I walk away, I cannot arm my alarm, because of it.

If I put the key back in, flick the ignition on, then off, and pull the key immediately, the beeping goes away and I can arm the alarm.

Any ideas here? Seems weird to me. Is this a "feature", or some kind of problem?

This has been around for a while. What's happening is you don't pull your key in a snap motion and the little lip stays open. All you need to do is put the key in and take it back out. You'll hear the click.

You really don't even have to put the key all the way back in. Just push the tip of the key against the ignition keyhole and you'll hear the snap Boof's talking about

I used to have the same problem until I mastered the art of removing the key just right
