no dammit, that's english with a CANTONESE accent. Cantonese is NOT the official language of China or Taiwan, it's just a provincial dialect. and because Canton (Guan Dong Province) is where the old seaports were at, the earliest exports of coolies and hard laborers were Cantonese speaking Chinese.

Coolies and hard laborers built most of the original railway line in Western Canada, back in the 1800's.

Last I heard, there was a lawsuit to sue the government and the railway companies for compensation.

Obviously, only descendants can ever hope to collect. I've heard American contractors made deals with various Chinese to bring these workers over. The history is rather interesting, as a kid in Western Canada I sometimes wondered how there came to be Chinese communities in most cities, especially along the rail lines.
