Default EPS

I haven't had power steering in my car for some time now. Finally found the time to have a look at it this weekend. I have the Service Manual and it say to use a volt meter to check for certain states. I'll do this Saturday.

In the meantime, does anyone have any experience with this? What sort of things go wrong? EPS motor? Control box? Torque sensor? Fuse? (I checked the 70amp fuse and it looks fine).

I am running the AEM EMS so no EPS light or diagnostic code.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you unplugged the EPS control unit recently?

There are 2 plugs to the control unit which can be plugged in in the wrong socket and you'll have no assist.

If it doesn't work now, flip the plugs and see if it works.

You can trick the HDS to work with a AEM car, but it requires another stock S2k to get past the 1st diagnostic screen. The SCS short should still flash EPS DTC's through the cluster.

Are you saying the SCS short is independent of the ECU?

I have considered plugging im my old ECU and getting the code if there are any but I'm guessing it will just tell me EPS Fail and not actually help much.

BTW, I picked up a replacement steering rack recently just in case.

SCS on a US spec car will still work with a EMS.

You mess with it any?

It is EPS control unit connector A and C that can be reversed.

Nah not yet. Saturday morning.

Mechanicking is just a hobby for me. I have a real job that finances my addiction.

It's 2 plugs to swap.. It's also my best idea for transcontinental troubleshooting.

Ok, just checked.

I can't even plug it in the wrong way around. The harnesses don't reach.
