Good Cheap drop-in door speaker replacements
Just installed JL Audio TR-600CX speakers for $79 at onlinecarstereo.com they sound a million times better at a very low cost, the site ships free with $99 purchase so i bought a power inverter that i had been wanting for almost the cost of shipping. I can now hear music at 60-80 with only a little distortion, but that is due to the factory HU. Very good quick fix for better sound. Later I will do more, but this will definitely suffice for now.
P.S. dont pay someone to install these for you, this was probably the easiest thing you will ever do to your car... Trust me.

are they worth 79 bucks, i know the stock spkrs are horrible but, hard to say if these are worth the upgrade to mainstream speaker. I dont plan to go much further, just some decent fronts & hopefully a JL steathbox if I can find a good deal on one.
As far as the install, whats entailed, just popping of the door panel and removing 4 screws? do thes JL's you talk about fit exactly with no drilling?

definitely worth $79, unless $79 is alot of money to you, but then you probably wouldnt have a s2k. if you are gonna amp soon, go higher end, i liked the mb quardts, but if you are gonna run stock HU, i found that more expensive speakers sound worse than these do at lower power. install is easier than lucids instructions say, just unscrew and pull. make sure you go to circuit city or the like and buy the honda speaker wiring adapters. there is NO drilling involved, uses factory screws and holes. I didnt even have to cut the basket.
hope that helped

Ive been hearing conflicting stories about changing the speakers in the 02 models. Since you already have a tweeter mount and the lower speaker actually give decent bass. Anyone with an 02 changed the lower speakers and heard a difference? Or changed both tweeters and lower speakers?
I have a stock HU and Lucids 3 way rear. But dunno if its worth it to get upgraded front speakers. Or should I just invest in an amp?

While it's true that the 2002 speakers give decent bass at low speeds, at higher speeds, it all gets drowned out by the car's road noise. While the stock speakers aren't very good, I'd have to say that more and better quality power would be where I would start.
I'm just ripping the whole thing out and starting from scratch.

I'll bow out of this discussion, given that I have a 2001, but I will say this: check with Lucid (a site sponsor). They do great products and good prices and their instructions are first-rate, as the owner has an S. Their site will also show you everything involved in the installation of door and rear speakers. My take: the rear speakers improve the sound quality 200%. Swapping out the fronts (at least in my model year) improved the sound another 100%. Swapping out the 2001 head unit with the 2002 head unit added a little more volume but no appreciable quality. Good luck.

But you're right, the door speakers are easy. Lucid's rear speaker kit is even easier than the doors.
