Another proud S2000 owner
After doing some 'research' I've found out that the S2000 doesn't like skipping gears, in particular the synchros seem to hate it. I don't know anything about engines, clutches or transmission, but it sounded like a serious problem. I wonder, does this also apply for downshifting? During drivinglessons I was taught to skip gears when downshifting.
If I drive 60km/h and approach a corner for which I have to slow down to 20km/h, I brake, and when the speed is +/- right, I shift from 4th to 2nd gear. Should I get through gear 3 in this situation aswell?
Also, my S2000 taught me to use matching revs quite quickly, just by how the car feals when shifting up. Matching revs while downshifting is something I'm not used to for now. Is it OK to skip gears if you always match your revs?
The above only applies for daily use, I'm not planning to get mine to a track any time soon. I've seen several topics about this, but I'm lacking knowledge to understand what is really said

Regarding skipping gears. I would say practice on this one to FORGET what you've learned during driving lessons. Slowly the habit will go away. Remember that this is a different beast and you can change gears very fast! I cannot see any reason or benefit in skipping gears.
Now, if you were in the UK, I would have pointed you where to go and have you top/checked and replaced. The hole is it on the rubber sealings or on the actual top? Search the forums for soft top fix you might be able to come up with something useful. If the hole is on the rubber sealing use some Shin Etsu!
Best of luck and welcome to the Honda family!
The roof on these cars is infamous for holes over the starboard seat shoulder where the top mechanism wears a hole from the inside out. But any 15 year old fabric top is subject to holes from several sources. Notes here put a new top as a day-long project for two guys and very pricy from a dealer.
