Believe the hype
Hi Everyone!
Ive generally always been one to keep myself to myself and as such initially used this site as a reference to get a real feel and idea as to what the Honda S2000 was all about.. Im guessing Im not the only one who may have followed this route but I thought potential buyers and owners alike might be interested in my journey in buying and now owning a S2K for the first time.
From a young age Ive always been drawn to the aesthetics of cars and even more so the sound and presence for which they have. You may find it strange and perhaps even more concerning that I've only held my UK driving license for some 36 months! Having recently turned thirty, my first car, my VW polo sadly died on the M1 motorway outside of my home city of Leicester which lead me to look for a replacement.
Some of my friends and especially work colleagues thought I was crazy going from a 1.4 FWD polo to a RWD sports car, especially considering I've never driven a RWD car and especially considering getting one in winter time! Being the sensible chap, I certainly heeded the concerns and really thought about it hard before making my decision, although when it came down to it the decision came from my gut!
Its been 2 months now since Ive owned my AP1 2003 GT Berlina Black and I am happy to say that I have never looked back or ever doubted the decision I made (yet). Sure it certainly costs a lot more to run than a polo and yes if it didn't have a hardtop I would be less comfortable parking it up but in my mind I've made the right decision.
I am by no means an over confident or experienced driver but with age comes responsibility I guess, I feel this mixed with the atrocious weather we have been having recently has taught to to appreciate the limits and how to get used to and drive the s2k. Im sure you've heard that the car is tail happy and from my experiences I would agree, however you soon learn how much you can give it before you get into those situations.
As you may probably tell, Im not massively technical but owning an S2k has certainly encouraged me to read up about them in order to learn how to take care of them and to get the most out of them. Ive found this site massively useful and I am pleasantly surprised how passionate owners are and the willingness to help and share experiences.
I won't harp on anymore, but Ill leave you with a few pictures and a 6 hour time-lapse when me and my friends gave her a clean for the first time.
Thanks ;-)
