What really sucks is the fact that most people who bought an MY00-01 paid $5000-10000 over MSRP.

I sold a MY00 for $7500 over MSRP.

$7500 over? Well, that's the worst I've heard. Something to be proud of?

Seriously, I thought Honda, in general, did a good job early on not rooking people who bought first year. When the Miata came out, Mazda completely lost control. Some people paid way more than that; it was obscene. The sheer volume of cars though ultimately brought the price in line quickly.

I am not sure how it was in other parts of the country, but in San Diego S2000s were selling at a premium. When the S2000 first came out, the public was told that it would be a two-year production car, with about 5000 cars produced a year. This is why people paid so much for the MY00-01s. The dealership I worked at sold each and every MY00 for $7500 over MSRP. Another dealership in town sold them for $10,000!

Let us know about the response of the Drive by wire throttle and the Vehicle Stability Control. What happens when you turn the VSC off? Can you then smoke the tires and spin the car?

Nick, folks,

There have been a few preliminary posts on the new MY06 driving experience in the S2000 Talk forum. That would be a good place to continue that discussion in more depth.

For newbies, just be aware that the things Nick mentioned are new features for the MY06 model year that weren't available any time previously. Many of us have been concerned that these features would "water down" the car to some extent, but I don't think anyone past break-in period has had a chance to do a comparison test. Not sure.

Best wishes.

I only have about 250 miles on my S, haven't taken it above 5500 rpms (in other words, haven't engaged VTEC yet), so I can't speak to performance at this time.
