Boxster vs. S2000
Hello everyone. I've been a "lurker" for a while. I currently own a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata putting out over 200hp to the wheels. Great car. I've has 4 Miatas but was also a fan of the S2000 since the day it came out. Looking for a car I will want to keep for a while. I thought a turbo charged Miata was the one but I've got the itch to upgrade yet again. A friend of mine is a member of this forum and has had a few S2K's. Doing my research at this point and down to two cars. S2000 and a Boxster. Bang for the buck I'm sure the S2000 has a bit more to offer. But I'm looking for a keeper. I'm thinking the Boxster might beat out the S2000 in that regards. Not sure why but I'm thinking a Porsche is a Porsche. An S2000 is only a Honda. Not putting it down in any way so don't take that comment the wrong way. Asking you guys which is a better car I'm sure won't give me any biased opinions
but just want to hear your thoughts. Anyone here owned a Boxster? Anyone here owned a Miata. Help me make my decision! Please!

My dream next car would probably be an NSX or a Porsche 911.
I really dont believe that the Boxster is worth the extra$$ for the Porsche name.
However, i would pay the extra$$ for a 911.
Also, a BOXSTER has only 5 more hp than an S2000.
** but if you think the BOXSTER will make you happy then go for it! (again, if it was me i would not pay the extra $$ for a Boxster)
Have you ever owned a German car before? Nothing against the Germans, My ancestors are all from Germany, however there is NO WAY I could ever allow myself to buy a German car EVER again. If you are looking for something to keep for a long time then you should probably consider reliability (Honda)
i do not care for the base boxsters...but the boxster S, especially the newer ones, are no joke. have close to 300 hp, and sound amazing! if i could afford it, i would have gotten an 05+ boxster S, no question about it.
I have the same dilemma...but it's hard to justify the boxster base with only 245 horsepower and just as hard to justify the boxster s additional $10,000 asking price. Best of luck to you in making your decision!
I wish I could afford a new Boxster S. If I could I'd actually lean towards the Cayman. Reality of it is this is going to be a second car so I'm going to have to go "preowned". I work in the auto sales industry so I have the luxury of buying at auction. I would be able to afford around a 2002 Boxster S or a newer S2000. Guessing around a 2005 or so s2k. I am "leaning" at this point to the Honda. But I do like the Porsche. The Honda is more affordable and a blast to drive. Quick question... when did Honda discontinue white with red interior?

I was torn between a boxster and the S2000. Two things, well actually three things helped to make up my mind.
1) changing the sparkplugs, 10 minutes S2000. About two hours Boxster. Put car on lift, removed fender liners, change plugs then put everything back.
2) changing the oil. 10 minutes S2000. Boxster - put car on lift, remove canister, empty oil filter element, clean canister, put in new element, install canister, put in oil.
3) repair bill from Porsche dealership to do either of the above! Do it myself, priceless!
I owned a 924S for 12 years, easy to work on parts very affordable. Boxster exactly the opposite. I used to swap stories with 911 owners about maintenance costs. Mine $ theirs $$$$.
S2000 $$ Porsche $$$$

Cayman is a very nice car, but only Porsche would charge a premium for a hardtop over the ragtop for this model car.
Look at the price differential between the 911 hardtop and convertible. Convertible is about $15,000 more.
