have the oppty to buy a 2001 S2000, 37K claimed miles. anything mechanically I need to look for?

I'd suggest getting any car inspected by a qualified mechanic. It's worth it to spend a little to give you some peace of mind before purchasing. That is low mileage but it all depends on how the car was treated in previous ownership.

Check out tire wear/tread depth.
The rears wear out 2 or 3 times faster than fronts. ( no rotation on these cars- different sizes front to rear).
Figure at least $250/each for tires. You need to have matched tires all around if you're serious about handling.
Actually, Four nearly worn out tire may be the best bet as you can then by 4 tires of your preference

pluses would be if it had an upgraded stereo and speakers with woofer, also good would be if it had a proximity alarm system, (those are expensive to purchase and install). Another plus would be if current maintenance is up to date including receipts, saves you more money. Another thing, run a current CARFAX.
