Default Buying car out of state

I'm currently living in Ohio, and I'm going up to Michigan to look at an s2k.. how does it work with sales tax if I buy the car in Michigan and bring it to OH? I've heard some states make you pay their sales tax if the car was purchased less than six months prior.. does that mean I won't have to pay in Michigan if i'm taking it out of the state immediatly?

Also whats everyones experience with certified used warrenty.. it looks like a good deal, especially the initial 12 month warrenty.

At least, that's how it works in Texas.

I have no comment on your warranty question, sorry.

i would try to not pay any tax, keep it simple.
get a receipt saying how much tax paid and what type of tax it was.

warranty avoid it:
there is always a chance something is bad and will need to be fixed but most likely it will cost less than the warranty, the s2000 is known to be reliable

in CA, you pay full tax on the current value of the car if it was brought into CA less than a year after purchase in another state.

you get credit for the tax you paid in the original state.

on top of that, you have to pay for a smog check...

If your getting it at a dealership, have them throw any warranties in for free. If they know you're out of state, they really wont car too much. You pay sales tax in the state you register the car - but the dealer can probably arrange everything for you (plate. registration, etc), saving you a trip to the DMV.

I am a salesman in NC. What will happen is you will get a temp tag and registration from the state you purchase in. Then since you will be titling it in your home state you will have to go to DMV and pay sales tax, tag and title fee. The dealership or private person you buy from are not allowed to tax you or make you pay for tag and title fees. Are out of state buyers we charge $1 for temp tag. If you are buying from a private party I am not 100% sure, but I believe you will have to go to their dmv and get a temp tag. You will be able to get your tag at DMV and your title will be mailed to your home address.
