I always check when the engine is cold and fill according to the lowest "x"
Usually there is no more difference than one X between both sides so I prefer to add rather than to let be.

Check the manual, but 5.1 I believe with the filter.

Sorry to bring an old topic up again. I noticed when I check my oil this morning that the driver side was half and the passenger side was full. I will be checking it again later on today when I get gas and take a hot reading.

I always check my oil cold or first thing in the morning as it has time for all the oil to drip down. I notice that when I do an oil change, it doesn't change the reading that much. Its when the oil age or the milage goes up is when i notice the difference in reading. I try to do oil change every 4k miles. I'm using synthetic and have about 80k on the car.

 

^ If you check it when it's cold, it will give you a skewed reading because the oil expands when it heats up. So, you may be overfilling the oil by reading it cold. The best time to read it is about 10 minutes after you've shut the car off on a level surface.

 

Yeah, let it warm up just a little, then sit. You'll get a cleaner reading.

Most importantly, make sure you're on level ground.

Remember, it doesn't have to be right at the full mark, anywhere between low and full is fine.

 

How many times do you have to add again? I don't drive aggressively or anything but each time I check it after about 1k mile of driving I don't see any oil on the stick at all. I've got Mobile one Synthetic in there but I've tried so many times to get an accurate reading. So far no luck!
