Comparison
Im in that really hard stage in buying a car where i cant decide what i want...im inbetween on a s2k or a 350z...im currently selling my celica and am going to be in one of these 2 cars so basically im posting this thread to hopefully get some reasons why the s2k is better then the z...and for u guys to give me reason to go for a s2k. Thanks

Basically, these cars are extremely alike. In a quarter mile...the S2K is a little faster, but the 350Z has more torque. I chose the S2K cause it handles ALOT better, I liked the look of it a lot more, and I'd much rather have a convertible than a 2-seater coupe. For the money you'd pay for a well-equipped 350Z, you could buy an S2K with a hardtop...which is what I did. Seriously drive them both, I hated the way the 350Z drove, and when I got out of it I never wanted to drive one again. But that's just me. Both have many aftermarket parts available too. I guess the only advantage in the 350Z is that it has traction control, but both cars have a 50/50 weight distribution and I've driven the S2K in all kinds of weather and it's fine.
Make the right choice for yourself. We all obviously favor the S2K, but if you end up feeling the 350Z...hey it's your money. But we'd all like to have you aboard here. Good luck

Test drive is your best bet
pretty much sums up what I felt I drove them. I guess the only change I have in that comment is Z = just like driving any other nice V6 coupes?

I went from a Celica GTS to the S2k because the S2k seemed to take everything I loved about my Celica and then multiplied it. I don't know which gen Celica you are coming from, but if it's the 7th gen, and you enjoyed it, then the S2k is the next logical step. A Celica GTS is similar to an S2k in many ways, but the S2k does it 10x better.
You really have to drive both cars and make the decision on your own. To me the 350Z was just a slower heavier version of my RX7, so there was no point in getting a more expensive car that was less pleasurable than something I already have. The S2k is something entirely different and no other car can compete with the fun factor while remaining affordable and driveable. There's my opinion, but you need to go form your own.

The Z is essentially a Japanese M3. Nissan's Z cars share many of the same characteristics as BMW's M3. The M3 started out as a light, one off production sports car with a focus on lightweight, even distribution of weight throughout the car, and not having an engine that crippled the overall performance package. Suspension and braking were also beefed up accordingly. As the M3 gets older it gains weight, becomes "soft around the edges" but also gets considerably more power. With the added weight come a lot of extra gadgets. So instead of getting a basic, focused performance driven car the M3 is now an 'executive GT coupe' of sorts.
In many respects Nissan's 350Z (and the G35) have followed these same principles. If you're looking for a direct comparison to the 350z and the S2000 you won't really find any. I think these cars are both unfortunate victims of direct comparison because they happen to fall into the same price range. Neither car shares much in common and I can almost guarantee that the majority of S2000 owners bought the car for entirely different reasons than 350Z owners.
I've driven a lot of Z's including the 06 models, a friend of mine used to have an '04. I raced him a couple times on the highway and he'd always pull away from me. He had a 6 spd coupe, all stock. My car was also stock, albeit with the top always down. As far as I'm concerned he can have his 3 car lengths at 120mph, I'll enjoy the wind in my hair.
The S2000 is a focused, performance driven car. Sit down in one and you're quickly reminded that this car exists to make you happy. All the controls are angled directly at you, the passenger seat is allocated only a single air vent. The rest of the ammenities offered by this car are specifically designed to make the driver function more efficiently in his/her environment.
The Z is more of relaxed coupe. The ride is stiff but the handling isn't particularly brilliant. It does have a lot of torque and I personally like the sound of the engine, especially when inside the car with the windows down and redlining 4th gear on the highway. However, the Z never put a smile on my face. I never got done driving it and felt like I just had to go back to it for that one of a kind experience. It's just another cool car without a soul (yes, my flame suit is on for that one).
