Convince me
Hello everyone. Currently, I drive a 1999 Audi A4. It is a 2.8L 30V V6 Quattro with a Tiptronic transmission.

other than this...

(supercharger if you didn't notice)
it is completely stock. I bought it in Dec of 07 so a little over a year ago. It's a very fun car with almost 300 hp. However, it's an auto and it had 118k miles when I bought it, and is now at almost 130k. I only had one problem with the belt tensioner when I got it, and it's been smooth sailing since. The miles have me worried though, and having 2 car payments is not an option... Which brings me here. I found this while looking through auto trader.
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u...&standard=false
I LOVE the color combo, the miles are low, it's a 6 speed, and within my budget no problem. So, if I can convince myself to lose the Audi, I will be picking this up within a few weeks. If I do decide to get rid of the Audi, does anyone see any reason not to get this S2K? Do 2001s have any problems, faults, etc??? Do a lot of people DD S2Ks b/c this would be my only form of transportation? What are the repair costs like(can't be much worse than a 10 year old supercharged Audi with 130k, right? lol)?
Thanks for the help in advance

I daily drive a 00' model with 134k. I have replaced the timing tensioner (15minutes) and adjusted valve clearances just as preventative (by just getting info from this forum). I am not worried about runing into devestating repair bills. I always go around in this car and usually with the top down. I enjoy it immensley and I am convinced I can fix anything on it with all the information on this site alone. Your Audi sounds great! As far as reliability of the S2000, it's got a great reputation. The other thing I like is that its a kind of unique car. So there's my two cents... hope that helps
it is a very unique car. I rarely see them around Saint Louis which is a big part of what I like about them. I see so many "luxury" cars like my Audi and BMWs but, most of all, mustangs... I love pulling up next to kids who have loud obnoxious exhausts on their mustangs and think they're hot shit, then see the expression on their faces when I blow them away. Im sure a 2800lb 240hp S2k has no problems romping on mustang GT.
with the huge amount of powertrain loss in an AWD, I bet my car and an S2K are throwing down about the same Whp
looked at that autotrader add, and the car looks good (glanced quickly). however, i wanted to let you know that in april of 08, i bought my 01 with 38k miles for about 13k. you should be able to atleast get it down that far, especially in this market. also remember, the warmer it gets out side, the higher the prices tend to go.
I've never driven an a4 but I can tell you the s2000 has a lot to offer.
The biggest thing I've noticed is it's fun factor. My wife and I just love our s2000. On top of it's fun, it's actually a fantastic car. It handles good, has amazing upgrade potential and a sound that is amazing. It's really not meant for speed off the line or draggin.' If you really want to see what this car can do, take it to a track and you'll leave happy!
Find someone in your area that has one and see if they'll take you for a ride.

Convince me, Do I realy want an S2K?
If you gave us some more info regarding what you're looking for in a car that would help. The S isn't a luxury car. It isn't a GT. It isn't a torque monster. However, if you're looking for a fun to drive, pure roadster then the S is likely to be a good match.

if you don't have any answers to my questions, don't post. you're just wasting space

Trust me, it doesn't take long for the "Convince me", "What should I do?", "What color should I....?" and other such threads to get very old. Spinning these questions differently can help. "Why did you pick...?" makes the OP of the thread at least seem like he/she has a spine.

Ndazone's reply was a bit harsh but there is a bit of truth to it. It's a highly subjective matter. The only real answer to questions like this is test drive test drive test drive. You really do have to decide for yourself if the S is suited for you and first hand experience is the only way to find out. I'm not going to try to convince you as it's a mistake to do so IMO. Either you're right for the S or you aren't. A lot of people DD their S (including me). A lot of people can't stand the S as a DD. There's no way we can tell you where you stand on the matter.

That's a slippery slope you're on. If you don't want opinions then you shouldn't post on a forum site to begin with. Learn to use the ignore filters on sites that offer it. Replying that people's replies are a waste of space is, ironically, a waste of space as well.

Luxury, practicality, mpg, ride comfort, etc... none of that is an issue. I just want something fast and would make a reliable DD. I know I know...
cheap, fast, reliable... pick two.
I think for $10k-18k fast and reliable should be easily attainable as I would, and many others, not consider that cheap

Thanks for coming out. Come back when you make your own decision.
Anyway, The S is a blast to drive but it is a very different animal from your current car. I personally have never driven anything that I've found to be more fun and more involving. I've found the S to be a home run for me. It's a nimble, quick, and mentally encompassing sports car that is reliable and gets decent gas mileage to boot. It has a silky smooth 6 speed manual and an amazing chassis.

Well, where do we start...the s2k's are reliable as DD, it also depends on where you live i.e. harsh winters etc. These cars are very easy to maintain and at low cost at that.
Many will argue with you here pointing that everyone is different and is looking for something else when choosing a new car, therefore the "convincing" comment, which I happen to agree with. There are many factors that you should consider, like: trunk space, no back seat, vertible... somethings you have to sacrifice in order to get the s2k driving experience.
My opinion? yes, great car...blah, blah, blah but I would also suggest keeping the Audi as a beater.
