I know this can sound mean but it's a very valid point. IF, I make it capital to reduce the flame broil, IF you are a BIG person tall or fat... This may not be the car for you.

Getting into this car you do feel (especially when the top's up or roof is on) like your climbing into a race-car made for someone 5ft tall and a buck-fifty in weight. If your a heavy or very tall person though... This car will be a true experience getting in and out.

With that said though, once in the car (so long as your butt fits) the car has plenty of room.

Most of the people I've seen who own S2k's are enthusiasts who wanted nothing else but the s2k. If you need to be convinced you should know about all of the disadvantages like the tight-fitting cockpit, no cargo space, hard noisy ride. You have to rev to 9k to equal the power of your supercharged Audi and that attract's cops.

But if you take one proper test drive in the S2k you'll find that all of those disadvantages are actually what makes it such a great car to drive. You feel so connected to the road like the car is an extension of your arms and legs, throttle and steering response is so crisp...just take a test drive and you'll be convinced without words.

I don't know about romping on Mustang GT's though, depends on which year Mustang.

I think that the only questions to ask yourself;

can I deal with the lack of space (ie: kids, grocery getter)?

I bought mine a few months ago and I wasn't even planning too. Try the car out if you don't get hooked by the fun factor, im suprised...

If I do decide to get rid of the Audi, does anyone see any reason not to get this S2K?
nothing struck me as off on the autotrader ad. could probably get the price lower.

Do 2001s have any problems, faults, etc???
2001s are more likely to snap oversteer than later models, but it isn't a big deal nor should it deter you from buying. the rear window is plastic and can sometimes bubble/rip etc... still nothing worth worrying about. few other little things... you can find a good list here.

What an asshole response.

It's a nimble, quick, and mentally encompassing sports car that is reliable and gets decent gas mileage to boot. It has a silky smooth 6 speed manual and an amazing chassis.
"...mentally encompassing"?

Sorry NDAZONE...it was a bit of an asinine reply. If I had mod entitlements in this sub-forum I would have zapped it. I would rather potential new owners ask the OP's question here than in S2k Talk, where it gets old quick.

Wookie...to help answer your question: 1st the asking price is very high...kind of unfortunate, but the s2k has lost a great deal of resale value. The car you posted is probably worth $12k at the most. And you can probably find newer s2ks with lower miles for the same price or a bit less. A good rule of thumb is to buy the newest lowest mileage s2k you can afford. Expand your search to other states to find the best example for the best price...the drive home with your new ride will be a ton of fun.

Honda made some reliability modifications over the years...some didn't change the character of the car...others did. Several of the changes in 04 for example, but fortunately some of those changes are easily overcome. And there were some very positive changes in 04 to help the average American driver be safe in the very twitchy s2k.

The major concern I would have for any s2k is over-rev. The tranny is probably the best I've ever experienced and it will not save you from your own mistakes like a clunky ZF or Getrag tranny will. So minor over-revs happen and on an early car that can spell disaster even years after the occurrence. Have a leak down test done on any s2k you wish to buy and if possible have the valve retainers inspected for cracks (post up in the s2ki forum local to the car and ask for a shop recommendation).

The 00-01 cars had a plastic rear window. Many have since converted to the glass rear window that came out in 02. I personally would try to make sure the car has the glass. The plastic fogs over time and cracks.

The 00-03 cars (called the AP1 as compared to the later AP2), also come with 16" rims. It is hard to find really good performance tires in the best size for the AP1 with stock rims. 17" rims have a much wider selection...17" is the stock AP2 wheel size.

As far as DD...I live in Florida, so DD is not a problem for me. I have put 100k DD miles on my car. If you are in St. Louis...well, you have snow & ice to deal with. You might post up in the Gateway s2ki forum to ask how others manage:

Good luck with your decision...and generally we have an awesome community.

Best advice on here is to take one for a test drive.

Even better, do it alone.
