that'll do it... you dont launch the car from 4500... there are things you do and don't do in an S2000. Launching at 4500 is one of them. Before I purchased my S2000 I did NOTHING but research. I read up on the diff, the "snap over steer", tires, brakes, maintenance... I spent hours a day on this forum learning what I needed to do. And 4500 rpm launches is a big NO.
I've done a 45 second long burn out. I've been to the drag strip. I launch the car for fun at 6+k. I love donuts. I also track the car often.
Original AP1 diff. 41k miles. No issues. Err....its a little clunky at times lol. But not sure if those are the axles...

what other sports car have you ever heard of with this many issues related to the rear end.
Ok, stupid n00b question. I had a gs-r prior, therefore no diff. What does it do when it's busted like this? Do you just hear gears grinding as you move? does it lock up so the wheels don't spin? Basically, how did you know it was the diff.
it could lock up depending on how it breaks, or just spin free so you don't move. It might even clunk along if only a couple of teeth broke but it wouldn't be long before it completely died.

damn all that.. i'm not going to baby the car for fear of something that shouldnt break breaking... i'll fix it with something better.
hell, i never even launched this last one and tore it all to hell. I took off from about 4500 rpms to get across traffic. I didnt even hit 2nd gear. EVERY tooth on the pinion gear had deep cracks through it.
If i had 600hp then it might be a different story, but I have 230hp... there is no reason this should break other that honda made a shitty ass diff.

But yeah it is a weak diff but holds fine if you launch the car correctly.
