that'll do it... you dont launch the car from 4500... there are things you do and don't do in an S2000. Launching at 4500 is one of them. Before I purchased my S2000 I did NOTHING but research. I read up on the diff, the "snap over steer", tires, brakes, maintenance... I spent hours a day on this forum learning what I needed to do. And 4500 rpm launches is a big NO.
Erroneous. I launched mine for 2-3 autocross events at between 6-8k RPM with 265/40 direzza sports and an exedy hyper single...and then would kick the clutch in 1st to get the car to rotate thru a tight gate.

I've done a 45 second long burn out. I've been to the drag strip. I launch the car for fun at 6+k. I love donuts. I also track the car often.

Original AP1 diff. 41k miles. No issues. Err....its a little clunky at times lol. But not sure if those are the axles...

not to be an ass, but wtf does that have to do with busting the diff?
Absolutely nothing. The comment before mine mentioned 'PuddyMod>DriverMod'. I was just pointing out that having a stronger diff is not more important than knowing how to drive.

what other sports car have you ever heard of with this many issues related to the rear end.
Plenty of other cars have problems. Look up the rear end issues with 1993-2002 GM F-Bodies. They are so bad that a 12-bolt or 9" rear end is a prerequisite to speed. Your Diff WILL fail in those cars, it's just a matter of when.

Ok, stupid n00b question. I had a gs-r prior, therefore no diff. What does it do when it's busted like this? Do you just hear gears grinding as you move? does it lock up so the wheels don't spin? Basically, how did you know it was the diff.

it could lock up depending on how it breaks, or just spin free so you don't move. It might even clunk along if only a couple of teeth broke but it wouldn't be long before it completely died.

damn all that.. i'm not going to baby the car for fear of something that shouldnt break breaking... i'll fix it with something better.

hell, i never even launched this last one and tore it all to hell. I took off from about 4500 rpms to get across traffic. I didnt even hit 2nd gear. EVERY tooth on the pinion gear had deep cracks through it.

If i had 600hp then it might be a different story, but I have 230hp... there is no reason this should break other that honda made a shitty ass diff.
That's why it blew haha. Can't launch from 4500 with this car. Gonna blow it frequently if doing that.
But yeah it is a weak diff but holds fine if you launch the car correctly.

no... it's either do burnout across the road, or wait patiently, or make a right, then make u-turn then make another right.
