Default on the fence...

Hey guys, I'm thinking of joining the s2k group. Always been a honda fan and I recently purchased a CRZ but finding that I'd like something a little sportier.
My big concerns with getting an s2k over my CRZ are these:

Is the s2k a good daily driver? (I've driven two seaters since I could drive, so that's not a problem)
What kind of real world ranges do you guys get on these per tank?
How is driving the s2k in the winter on snow and ice?
How easy is it to upgrade the audio system? (360w plus a sub in the Z is going to be hard to compete with in a convertible)
Would you guys recommend getting the hardtop for stability? ( I love being able to corner fast )

Thanks in advance!!!

Wouldn't be a problem for me, but to most people it's loud and the ride is pretty harsh.

I believe somewhere around 250 a tank is common. Small tank and 20 to 25 mpg means you aren't going very far.

Never done it, but wouldn't want to.

It can be upgraded, there are many threads on here related to that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the hardtop doesn't do much for stability. Being that the S2000 was designed as a convertible to begin with, it's very "stable" as is (if you're referring to the flex commonly associated with most convertibles). The hardtop will help you kill some interior noise down though, if you plan on DD'ing it.

Thanks in advance!!!

1. yes
2. about 315-325 miles per tank. Could be lower depending on driving habits.
3.Not the best for ice. store the car away for several months until the snow melts.
4. Not a big problem if you dont mine using up the little amt. of space we have
5. You be able to corner fast with or without HT. HT will reduce noise by 25-30%. It may tighten up flex somewhat but not to the level of a non-convertible

1. Lots of people daily drive...but be aware that it can be a loud and stiff ride. A long traffic drive can be somewhat a pain.
2. Between 250-300mpg. Heavy driving 200-250mpg. Still decent IMO.
3. Again, it has been done. Definitely not recommended though. Expect to have dedicated snow tires during these times of the year. All season tires will do you no good driving in snow or ice.
4. Upgrading the system is not too difficult. Lots of info you can see by checking out the "Electronics" forum on here.
5. Never heard too much really about the hardtop giving you more stability. If it does, very minimal IMO but nothing noticeable. The S2 was built with already great stability and a hardtop is not worth getting if that was your sole purpose for it.

Hope this helps with your purchase. Good luck.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty sold on getting an S2k, now I've just gotta find one around through a dealer so I can trade in my CRZ.

I'm definitely not too concerned with the rough ride - I drove my CRX Si with track springs on it as a DD for over a year so now everything feels like a caddi
Guess I'll have to see about getting the X out for the winter months if the snow tires don't do enough for me.

Thanks again everybody!

I did it - traded in my CR-Z with 7200 miles for a 2005 S2000 w/ 44k miles in some shade of silver/gray (not sure which one), 18" black wheels, "custom exhaust" and not a lot of info on the previous owner, but the carfax was clean. I'll have to get it up on the lift at the shop and see if it's got suspension mods as well. It looks and feels great driving it and I couldn't be happier

Plus I think i'm the only one of these driving around the city and I like to stand out.
