Finally got an S2000!
Hi all!
After driving an '89 CRX Si from 2001 to 2012, I had a 2010 Ford Fusion until a couple of months ago.
The Fusion had to go... And thankfully I found my '02 S2000! It's got just shy of 130k miles and has seen a slight lack of love from past owner(s). (The paint/wheels/front bumper are a little rough) but overall it's pretty great.
The engine makes a bit more noise than I'm comfortable with, though... Is that normal? I've already done a valve adjustment (which made it a bit quieter) but there's still a sound that's kind of like a bike chain. TCT maybe? Or just valvetrain noise? It changes with RPM, but doesn't seem to change whether the engine is cold or hot. It doesn't sound like the loud *clack clack clack* sound that I've heard in the TCT noise videos. Last weekend I pulled the TCT and was going to sandblast it, but my buddy's compressor didn't have enough flow to operate the gun, so I just sanded the worm gear with 220 and put it back in. The sound didn't really change.
There is also a bit of what sounds like maybe piston slap when it's cold (which is a separate noise).
