I guess I've gotten accustomed to the noises made by the convertible top. The sound you're hearing is likely coming from the latches, and I think there are fixes out there for this, but I can't point you at them.
Tires? There's a whole realm of these. Your best bet is to go to the wheel and tire forum and poke around there. Personally, I've really enjoyed my S03 (Bridgestones). Bridgestone also has the RE050 which is the OEM tire these days, and they have the RE01 (I think it's called) which looks extremely aggressive.
