Local dealership is selling 02 S2000 with 35K miles for $22000 (Honda certified)
and I was wondering if it's a good deal.
Also, does "Honda Certified" mean anything?

Should I go for it or wait for better deal?

their quote is what most of the seller determine for the price, honda cert. means the car passed the X number of check, which means it's been serviced and in good condition, which is not something easy to say with private seller or used car lot.

 

I have a honda certified s2000 I will let her go around 15-17 at about 50k miles. this is in the NW seattle area where s2ks are a premium usually 1-2k higher so I should have no prob selling. I mean sheesh the lowest s2k on autotrader is 17k something!!

 

honda cert also comes with a limited drivetrain warranty as well (at least mine did). just a comparison, I bought my car last April. MY01, 18k miles, Honda Cert, and they were asking 24k for it. I finally got them down to 21k.

with some stubborn negotiating i'm sure you could get it down just below 20 but it really depends on your area. If there are a ton for sale and they aren't selling, then obviously there's more room to haggle. Also, as suggested, check out kbb.com and some of those other "pricing" sites to get a rough idea.

 

I'd say the price is fair- but I would never purchase a 02 @35k miles for $22,000.

Also, CPO = all req. maintenance. Just make sure you're not buying that S from doughNuts

But hey, according to doughNuts, the future customer shouldn't mind that type of treatment since he's going to get a great deal.

 

That thread linked above is rediculous. Kinda makes me wonder what the previous owner of my S did to it before he turned the keys over to me. I'm guessing a burnout or two jugding from the bald rear tires sitting in my garage!!!

Honda certified. That means the dealer is including and charging you for an extended warranty. This is just extra profit for the dealer and can make a car from a Honda dealer have a higher price than its Blue Book value.

The dealer will justify the higher price by saying the car has been inspected and is therefore somehow special. Well, it's a Honda, and if any car can go 100,000mi with no issues, it's a Honda.

The inspection is more to make sure the car will not need the extended warranty that you bought with your certified Honda.

This may or may not offend your sensibilities. For some, it gives security when buying a used car.

One thing is for sure, if it did not make money for the dealer, they would not do it.
