Default Good Deal?

Here is the deal

2005 NFR w/ 8.5K on the odometer. Was previously owned by the honda dealers service manager...she switched to a ridgeline. Asking price is 25.5K. It is certified honda with the balance of the 7 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty included. After tax and tag price is $26.6K You think I could get the 25.5K as an OTD price or anything lower? I also have a trade in '00 they gave me a ballpark figure of $6.5K (it is only in fair cause it has some dings...it was my college beater, it is in great mechanical condition however). So I am looking at financing the balance $19.8K

I have not seen the car in person yet and will probably drive to go see it this weekend. I have seen pics of the car and the carfax is clean.

I am also kinda weary of buying over the internet. I'm sure people here have done it? How was your experience?

The salesman at this dealership seemed pretty straight up...but you never know.

This will also be my first car purchase, just bought my first house...now I figure its time for the car I have been wanting for the last 3 years. Thanks guys.

I think that the best way to get a good deal is to take care of your financing and old car separately. The dealer is in the business of screwing you, so eliminate as many of their tools as you can.

The price sounds reasonable.

watermelonman, the dealers are NOT in the business of screwing our customers. We are in the business of taking money out of customers' pockets.

To OP:
Best way to get rid of your college beater is to sell it yourself. Try Craigslist, Autotrader or Cars.com.

I should also clarify...sorry. Trade in is a '00 4cyl Accord coupe EX, 69K on the odometer, everything but leather. Like I said, atleast 4-5 dings on the thing. I figure $6500 is a fair value to a dealer. Just ready to get rid of it. Whatever s2k I buy will be a weekend car since I have a company vehicle for use during the week.

You could get $6500 for your trade, if the dealer feels like being generous on that day. KBB lists your car for $8200 in FAIR condition if you sell it yourself. BTW, do you have a Carmax in your area? Take your Accord to Carmax and get a free appraisal as well. Doesn't hurt to shop around.

Thats a pretty good deal.

I got my 05NFR with 12k on it for 23.5 OTD.

So I bet you could talk them down to 24.5 or 25OTD

My words may be harsh, but most consumers see the two as the same thing.

Good luck in all your dealings. Hopefully you'll get the car you want.
