Had to pass on the Miata
Hello Everyone,
I've been lurking for the past couple of weeks as I debated whether to get a Miata GT PRHT or a used S2000.
While deployed for 8 with the Navy I had decided to buy a Harley when I returned. After having picked out my bike for pickup, my wife talked me out of it, last minute. The agreement was that I would buy a "fun" car instead, for her peace of mind. I was originally looking at the Subaru BRZ. That's when I saw so many stellar reviews of the Miata, a car I always thought was too "cute" for my taste.
I decided to test drive both cars. The BRZ was as described by many critics. Great handling but felt a bit heavy and dull. The engine was simply underwhelming, since I was already bitten by the S2000 bug. The Miata was spirited, comfortable and an all-around fun car. The S2000 was intense!
My mistake was walking into a used dealer to "just" test drive an '07 red S2000 they had in the lot. After hearing that V-Tec scream and set my hair on fire, I just could not settle for the BRZ nor the Miata. I must say though, the hard top option and practical road manners of the Miata made it a tough choice, since the S is going to be my DD. Nevertheless, I knew I would always wonder what it would have been like had I went with the Honda had I bought the Miata.
After shopping around for a couple of weeks, I picked up an '06 Red S2000 w/55k. Driving down from Malibu on the PCH I was literally grinning all the way, up until I hit traffic.
BTW--I'm in San Diego but I'll be moving to NOVA for my next duty station.
