That car doesn't sound like the right one. I feel you though regarding finding a clean "unmolested" earlier model car. It got to be that way with 4th Gen Supras - so many were either wrecked or poorly modified.

Comments on your 'wrong' list:
1>Easy fix
2>Cosmetic - Can be fixed
3>Cosmetic - Can be fixed
4>Cosmetic - Can be fixed
5>There's nothing wrong here...this is good.
6>Eventually you need to paint...its a used 9 year old car.
7>Not to be wise, but did you give it gas? Sounds from your description what happens when engaging the clutch without giving it enough gas.
8>For everything that needs repair and your obvious uneasyness about the deal, you are correct in your assumption. But we haven't seen the car either.

Good Luck.

First off, thanks for your response berlinablackie.

I wouldn't say I am uneasy. I just want to feel comfortable with the purchase at its current price. I am supposed to go Sunday and make the transaction and I just want to be certain or have the mindset to renegotiate.

Once again though, thanks for your thoughts.

This is kind of why I said "this doesn't seem to be the right car". You didn't sound too enthusiastic about it.

Like berlinablackie pointed out, pretty much anything can be fixed, and cosmetic issues won't prevent you from using the car.

That being said, if you wind up needing to put another $1K+ in the car to feel good about owning it (plus the DIY time, or paying more to have it installed), the deal starts to teeter towards ... ?

I can enjoy it from minute one (aside from the rear tires needing replaced). It is mechanically strong, it has a new top and its miles are fairly low for being a 9 year old car. I just wanted to get approval from other people that own s2000s and can verify certain elements that came into question. I also want to make sure that 11,700 is a good price. In some way I want to feel like I am getting a great deal.

price is debatable as i have seen a few 00 and 01 that are over 100K miles and they're asking 12-13K close to stock also. Like many other mentioned those stuff sounds easy to fix, dont know about the tranny though. I bought my 01 with 85K for alot cheaper than what you're getting but urs only has 6x,xxx miles on it. The issues at hands are easy fix but might become an annoyances once you attempt to fix it.

Overall though, just don't rush into a buy and find one that you will get excited about it. Atleast that way you will be happy with your purchase.

if you go to your regional section of the forum, you might be able to find locals that are familiar with the car and it's issues and can go with you to look at the cars. It's pretty hard for us to give you a good answer when we can't test drive the car, or see it in person or hear the way it runs.
