Ill be looking at 2001 plates as i have a budget of around 12k as will be getting a house soon lol So is there any problems i need to look our for ? any milage related problems? and is it true that if i want a hard top for winter it will have to go in for a week to be fitted ?

I agree. Your only odds of coming close is by looking for high mileage '00. But that's undesirable on many levels.

I don't agree with what people are saying here. The S2000 isn't some POS Buick that starts sagging its jowls and smoking oil at 50K miles... Our little car holds up well over the miles. There's no reason why a car with 80-100K miles couldn't be a great driver. I'm not sure about a $12K target, but it might be doable with an MY00 with 80K...

That said, if you buy such a car, you need to do a very thorough inspection on the entire drivetrain to be sure you're going to get good years of driving pleasure. Change all the fluids and look at the diff and tranny fluids closely for signs of trouble.
