Hey, New Here. Convince me.
In my opinion, it is ultimately about what the car means to you. The excitement. The attachment. The place it holds in your heart.
About a year ago i was really getting the itch to pick up a RWD car. At first one of the newer mustangs didnt seem like half bad idea, but I knew i wanted something light and nimble. I was really leaning towards going to Miata route, but still kept half an eye on S2000's. I even considered waiting for the release of the latest Miata. After the initial excitement of considering/looking for a new car wore off i was able to take a breath and consider what IIIIII was going to enjoy the most.....
At the end of the day, it had to be the S2000. I absolutely love my Honda's. I've had a 92 hatch, 97 hatch, and still have my RSX-S which now serves as my daily. All of them have been fantastic cars to me. Fun to drive, cheap and easy to maintain. Reliable as death and taxes. I absolutely love the K20 in the RSX, and i knew the F20/F22 was a close cousin.
I had a passion for the S before i ever got to crawl all over one and take it for a test drive. I had been drooling over them since highschool, but it always seemed to sit in the "unicorn" section of my brain. "That's an awesome car, but i'll never have one." Even after a brief test drive, i was ready to heat up the brand, get out my lasso, and capture one of my own regardless of the sacrifices or cost (sorry mortgage principal payment). Why? Because of the place i knew this car would hold in my heart.
I don't care if a corvette owner looks down their nose at it. I don't care if most people mistake it for a Miata (ok.. maybe a little bit). However I do care about the smile it brings to my face each time i drop the top and hit the streets with the Berlina gleaming.
After a Michigan summer, and roughly 2500 miles i probably appreciate the car even more that when I rolled off the lot. Its so well balanced, very predictable, and just as much fun cruising at 45 then it is grabbing gears to 130. I grew up around high HP V8's, so i would love to put some extra pep in it's step, but again, thats the extra bonus. The car is such a great platform for modifications if that is the route you want to go. The bottom end is supposed to be good for 600hp. You can slap on widebody kits and an immense amount of rubber underneath it. In one form or another i know this car will be with me for a very long time. One day it will be a bad bitch, but i am still completely content with the vehicle in its current form.
While my back was rather angry, i enjoyed polishing/detailing the car for a conservative 17 hours. When i put a front lip on, it had to be OEM. Checking valves, replacing plugs, and changing all the fluids wasnt work, it was rewarding. Screwing on a factory blue oil filter was like the perfect garnish to a 5 star meal. Conditioning leather seats and rubbing it down with Carnauba feels like being the lotion boy at a Hawaiian Tropic photo shoot. Why? Because i love the car.
So while this is a testament to my love for the S2000, i dont want to talk you into anything other than purchasing the car you will enjoy and appreciate the most. Happy hunting!

If you want to be convinced, watch these videos... They do a good job of reviewing the S2000 and point out the pluses and minuses... I especially like the comparison between the S2000, the RX8, and the FRS/BRZ...
All of these videos are reasonably short and give you a great idea of what the mainstream auto enthusiasts think about the S2000...

Probably perusing Craigslist right now
But in all reality, I think it depends on whether you like the idea of a convertible or if you like how the car looks with a hardtop. Judging by the mods you said you did on your Genesis (mostly cosmetic), the looks matter alot to you. If it's the first, there isn't really a better option for a convertible around the same price range unless you a fan of the Mx-5 (which I highly doubt
). Almost all reviews point at how well the s2k handles and performs and because it's a Honda, it'll outlive you. So I don't believe that mechanical reliability would be of a concern.
With that being said, electricmarauder is right in a sense that it is a big purchase and nothing we can say or do will be able to convince you. Bust out a pen and paper and draw up all the pros and cons of owning an s2k. I'm sure you will make the right choice
