Default how do i keep my s on the road?

had fwd's and awd's all my life, and finally went to rwd with my new(but old? LOL) s2k!!! i actually had bought a 01 bullet stang back when it was new in 01, but got into an accident... since then i stayed away from the rwd scene... now i'm back with the s~ being a former honda master tech(now i have my own shop) i was always around the s, and always around modified cars, but i hear from my autox friends that the s is very hard to tame(?) as they call it... for now i will be just commuting with it here and there... i hear horror stories of people running off roads with the s... any pointers for a noob s owner??? so i can keep myself from running off the road??? thanks!

Keep good tires on it and give autox a try.

I'm hoping to do my first autox this summer, not just for the fun, but to learn the car's limits.

This is what I've learned...

1. Keep an eye on your tire tread. Don't be cheap and try to use the tires past the point of being safe, especially on the rear. The car can rotate quickly, so bad tires = a bad time. I can attest to this personally.
2. Don't be excessively stupid on public roads. You're still governed by the laws of physics.
3. Don't unsettle it during cornering by lifting off throttle or braking hard mid-turn.
4. Watch when/where you're crossing over into VTEC. Not like it's 'OMG VTEC' but the jump in power can unsettle the car if you're mid-turn and can break traction on cold tires on a wet road.

It's an easy car to drive, I daily mine and love it. It has very high limits but people still manage to wreck by doing blatantly stupid things. Just keep good tires on and use common sense. It'll hug the road like paint and you'll have to really go out of your way to make it misbehave.

Congrats on the S

I guess since I grew up on rwd it does not seem that hard to tame, but with everything in proper working conditon...tires, geometry, etc it is actually really easy to tame. If you have a track close to you it would be a good idea to go and take some laps, most of the autox circuits are set up pretty tight...which will not allow you to get much a lot of speed. As mentioned before you just need to use some common sense, don't get in too steep and then slam on brakes, smooth is always faster.

thanks for the input guys. i bought it with bald tires on the rear so i put some bridgestone re050a poles on it. the fronts are kumho ecsta asx's but they were too new i couldnt bring myself to replace them as well....
so far everything is stock(which i intend to keep it for a bit) and my commute is about 20 minutes on the highway everyday... the car feels pretty solid like you guys say it does~ i do have a question tho... being that the rear tires are some "decently grippy" tires vs. the front which are... i'd say "just enough to get by" tires... will this cause a problem in spirited driving? i am not going to be autox-ing the car just yet... as i would like to get this thing in immaculate condition before i do, but just wanted to know if most of you guys run the same tires front and rear, or mix and match? being a mechanic, my instinct tells me yes, they should match, but my turbo crx does NOT have matching tires(street tires that is , autox tires DO match) and i have no issues. anyone nice enough to tell me their tire set up and how they like em? thanks!
