I am really gonna do it!
I currently own a 2007 Ford Focus. I bought it brand new for like $17,000 with some extra maintainence plans and stuff ... what a POS this car is. I can't believe how many people are driving this piece of crap. No disrespect to anybody for buying it, but ...
The thing shakes and rattles when you aren't going over anything but a flat road, which is ironic because the ride height is so high. The thing weighs more than oprah on a bad day, the engine makes all sorts of noises I disapprove of, the transmission will sometimes grind when used properly and will sometimes refuse to shift into reverse, the seat belts lock up all the time, the rear defroster turns off by itself, the cold air is always warm, the cd player says brand new CDs are bad discs half the time, not to mention the stereo sucks, the wipers sound like shoveling rocks with scrap steel, not to mention they usually leave so many streaks that it's more ideal to leave the wipers off in the rain, the back seats get pinched by steel when you fold them down, the back seat armrests can be pushed into the car by inches very easily, the headlight switch is at a 15 degree angle difference to the dash, not to mention that all the visible parts in the interior look like they are trying to fall apart, 3/4 of the car is held together with spring clamps instead of screws, the doors rattle like a snake when you shut them, not to mention that the doors are surprisingly easy to break into, the cupholders are 100 inches wide but only about 2 1/2 inches deep so they tip over all the time, and there are SIX cupholders when there are FIVE seats, and TWO of those cupholders get in the way of the window rollers when you put anything in them, the ebrake wobbles all over when activated, the seat will give you back pain when lowered or any position for that matter, the pedals are way to short in the car, the gas pedal is inches lower than the brake, the clutch pedal wobbles all over the place, my headrest was broken from the factory, I could have a picnic on the dashboard cause it is a friggin TABLE ...
I could go on and on.
I'm not very happy with this car. What makes me sick is that I am paying $380 a month for insurance cause I signed something really expensive at the dealership with the intention of changing it later ... lazy. What I'm getting at is I could own an S2000 right now for the same price I pay per month already. So why did I not??? I try not to think of that.
I drove an S2000 at a dealership and this is an AMAZING car! I can't believe that you can get these for 20k. Most of the used ones have been babied and have low miles, not to mention that it has Honda reliability and a huge factory warranty. And I cannot even comprehend how much power you get out of this car for a 2.2L either!! I've seen 3+ liter cars floor it and not even come close to the speed of an S2000. And the road feedback, and the compactness, and the handling (the handling!) ... I felt like I was in heaven when I drove that thing. I found my perfect car.
So here's my plan. I want one. The paperwork has been filed at the dealership to get rid of my GAP protection, extended warranty, and 5k mile maintainence plan. This'll make the car as cheap as possible. I'm upside-down on my loan (I owe more than the car is worth), but I have a pending loan at a credit union I'm going to take up to be able to pay off the car in full (with the buyer's payment). Then, the title will be sent to me and I'll sign it over to the buyer. I own a motorcycle that's cheap as hell to drive, so I'm going to drive that around, pay off my debt within months, save about $8k for a down payment, and buy an S2000. ... And a radar detector
In the meantime, I'll envy all you guys and lurk around the forums.
I feel like a teenager again, haha. Wish me luck!

damn man, that sucks about the ford. i don't have much experience driving them but they weren't that bad for me. although i don't blame you for wanting a nicer car. good choice on the s2k, as you said its an amazing car. i had a 2002 protege5 that was literally on its last legs starting at 75k. i can't believe i made it to near 90k before it completely crapped out on me. good luck with everything and look forward to seeing you around on the boards.

Driving the car and owning the car is night and day. On a driver's perspective, the power output is very reasonable, the clutch is fairly sporty, and it handles like more expensive cars. This was the first time I bought a new car so I was a sucker to the salesman. He did the whole "write on the back of whatever paper he's using with a highlighter" scheme and then the financing guy later convinced me to get all this extra garbage I didn't need. I also didn't think I could have been given a loan because I've stayed away from credit cards for a good part of my life. So without thinking as much as I should, I figured it was a new car that I could live with, so I bought it.
Whoops.

What kind of motorcycle do you ride? And for the radar detector - do yourself a flavor and get a Valentine 1...it will pay for itself within the first year.
