I got robbed by the S2000!
this is all so classic
i wasn't even in the market for a car... i had always daydreamed about the S, but knew it was too impractical/expensive/etc to drive daily...
so, i go to the honda dealership to have maintenance stuff done to my 2006 civic Si, and there's an '04 S2000 on the lot. knowing that i had a bit of time to kill, the salesman offered me a ride.
i'd thought the Si was pretty hardcore with it's 8k rpm redline... but this thing was friggin' phenomenal!
long story short... a few weeks later, i no longer drove a Civic
(oh, and my insurance is cheaper on the S than the Si
)

I was looking to replace my C4 Corvette with a C5 or just newer C4. It turned out that my taste was more than my budget could stand. I began to consider other roadster options. I asked my son, " what is that little two seater Honda called"? He told it was an S2000. I checked the local Carmax online and they had a 2002 Sebring silver. That was a Sunday night. I drove to the lot and looked at the car when they were closed. I had to have it! I was at their door Monday morning waiting for them to open. After a quick test drive, I drove it home.
Do you know what - this is deja vu.
When I was looking for my new car, I test drove Alfa Spider ( you will see this in the US 08 or 09 ), new Audi TT, Nissan 350Z, Boxster etc etc. Never had the S on the radar.
My wife said - Hmmm - that looks nice. The salesman took us out for a test drive (one at a time ). To be honest - in town - the S is rather underwhelming. But when we hit the twisties in the countryside.
OMG!!!
VTEC really is infectious. And every time I take her out - I'm smiling like Mr Smiley of Smilesville.

Wow, you guys took the S for a drive first? I was in the market for an RSX type S, The guys at Acura wanted to charge MSRP for a late model 06 soon to be discontinnued. Walked over to the Honda dealership saw the S, Love at first sight. I got mine for 3K less than MSRP, for an 07 fresh off the truck that morning. Took her home the same night.
i sold my money making first car for 5700 profit from it... never htought a S was in my budget... but curious i wen tonline to look at prices of 01s 02s saw o man jus in my budget if i can find one for a good deal..... later that week i had no car still and jus sittin around got my dad to check out a silverstone 01 w/ 45k on the clock.... went to check it out but i didnt kno how to drive stick (messed around wit friends but never drove it around other cars or on roads, jus in parkinglot/friends street) so i never test drove it my dad did.... he said it was a go.... next day cash all on my end no help from parents.... learned to drive it the day it was registered bymyself... 2months later... i<3it and the GOD DAMN s2000 MOD BUG is hitting me.....
I was going to buy a prelude when I was living in Japan, one of my friends had just bought an S and let me take it out for a spin. I knew from that moment that I was not going to be buying a prelude and that I was going to be an S owner. Got one through the auctions about 2 months later
I was in the market for a roadster and I test drove the 2007 Boxster S, Z4 and new TT. The s2k wasn't really on the radar. But, I found that they were being advertised for $5k below MSRP... So, I said 'what the heck, I'll go test drive one.' I thought it looked better than the Boxster and the Z4... both inside and out. It wasn't as fast flat out as those two, but it was just as fun to drive! AND it was $30k less than the Boxster S and $15k less than the Z4 3.0si. The TT looked great and the material quality was great. But, it felt slow and chunky compared to all of the other cars (didn't drive the one with the magnetic suspension). So, in the end the s2k was perfect. Very fun to drive and not that painful on the checkbook... far exceeded my expectations!
