I'm this close to buying an S2000! Some advice?
I've made the mental decision to purchase an S2000 as it's a car I've always wanted to have.
I'm looking at a Honda Certified Used Vehicle. It's a Grand Prix White 2001 with 21k miles. I'm going to offer $19k. It has a 12 mo/12000 mi bumper to bumper warranty and a powertrain warranty good until 2009/100,000 mi.
What do you guys think about the price? Is this reasonable? What should I look out for? I'm hoping that since it's at a dealer I don't have to worry about accidents or anything. They said it has a clean Carfax.
One of the things that worries me is getting this before my Mazda is sold, but hopefully it won't be on the market too long.
I can't wait to join the family!

Personally i'd go with atleast an 02 because of the rear glass on the softtop....I've seen too many cars BMW,Miata,etc...with the plastic windows and over time they will look nasty....i wouldn't pay more then 18k for an 01 also it's winter right now so you should be getting a better deal then the summer months....
its possible to keep the plastic rear window clean and protect it, but a pain crawling around and reaching back there to get the inside of it. I think you could also get a better deal. i got my 00 w/ 48k for around 16.5k t+t. ASK TO SEE THE CARFAX PAPERS IN PERSON just to be positive. congrats in advance and good luck!
heres all it took me to convince 2 others to get an s2k
I had a 2002 bmw m coupe (s54 engine) i was making 281 at the wheels, with ud pulleys and no cats, i had GC coilovers, and the car was a beast, i loved it soooo much, but
THE S2K IS ALOT MORE FUN TO DRIVE, its the best decision i ever made. i miss the m coupe sometimes kuz it dosent have the low end of the ///M but in all other categories is wins hands down imo.

Well I bought it. It's a 2001 Grand Prix White S2000 with 22k miles on it.
I wanted an AP1, and I decided I was ok with the plastic rear window, but the fact that the 2002 has the all-red interior turned me off. I figured it would be cheaper to retrofit a glass windowed top than swap out interior components.
I'm very happy. It's my favorite color, and I think I got a pretty good price. It was 20k out the door. It's a Honda Certified Used car, so it comes with a 1 yr bumper to bumper and a powertrain warranty until 2009/100,000k. I declined the upgrade to a bumper to bumper for that long. Still, being a certified used car didn't mean they put the right tires on it. It has 205/55-16 Michelin MXV4's all around. They said they can fix it, but I'll find out for sure on Monday. So my price will be even better with a new set of Potenza S02's!

Super, Rob! Welcome aboard! You got your favorite color, and some peace of mind from Honda certification. 22K miles is very reasonable (low, even), and that's great.
Yes, you must fix the tire problem. If you can get the S02s in the correct OEM sizes, that's good. Otherwise, if you're looking for a different tire (like an Eagle F1 or something), you might need to upsize the tire width because the stock S02s are slightly wider than other brands of the same sizes. I think this is covered in the Tire and Wheel forum: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showforum=56

I just traded my 02 miata for an new 05, got it for 29k. The price sounds right if the car has no hidden problems

This sounds like a huge rip off to me. Unless you mean the car before trade in was $29k.
