Introduce yourself here!
Hi All:
My wife has been saying for quite a long time that she wants to own a "cool old lady car" at some point. At just over 40, she has a ways to go, but I've been thinking for some time what she would like that I, as the custodian of said vehicle, would be willing to maintain. As a motorcycle guy, I tried to convince her to get her license and ride, since bikes take up way less space and, at least for BMWs, I can get parts at cost since I work for a dealer, but no go.
So I thought and thought...new Mustang, 1980s 280ZX... Then I hit upon the idea of an S2000 as a good alternative, and she agreed. Now we need to build a garage or buy a house with one where we can properly house a convertible (and more old BMW bikes).
At any rate, I thought several months of studying a fan fourm would be a good thing since I've had good luck doing so with motorcycles. Now I need to take my wife out and get her to drive an S2K, but I'm sure she'll like it since she loves power. When we met she had a new Thunderbird SC and was in danger of losing her license.

Howard,
Best wishes on your choice, but I'd like to express a few thoughts.
The S2000 is definitely a driver's car. It isn't cushy, it has very little storage space, and it goes like a raped ape when you drive it hard. It can be uncomfortable on long drives if you have any kind of weakness in your back.
More recent models (MY06+) have some electronic driver aids, but previous versions can easily get thrown into oversteer conditions and catch inattentive drivers in a nasty situation.
So, depending on the kind of driver your wife is, this might be a bad choice. I mean, well, it's a car so it's still "safer" than a bike, but I don't think it fits the bill as a "cool old lady's car."
I'm not trying to talk you out of this, but be honest with yourself about how attentive/skilled your wife is as a driver. Is she expressing any interest in high-perforamnce driving school? Y'know, this kind of thing...
Best wishes. Oh, and if you can get out for some test drives, DO IT for sure.

If looking to buy a new S2000 drivea preowned 2005 or 6 so you can acually drive it how it is built to be driven . The new ones have a very important break in period so aggressive driving is Not Good for the new engine . Good luck in your search for the real "Ultimate Driving Machine"
Hello all at S2KI,
I'm a mechanical designer from Rochester, NY. I recently bought a 2002 NFR AP1 with only 9800 miles on the clock. I've been an active member on Honda-Tech.com for the past few years (same username; I still own a EJ2). My plans are simple; OEM front lip and then open her breathing up (possibly J's racing CFRP intake, boring my throttle body to Spoon specs, Spoon or T1R header, and Spoon N1 exhaust). Feel free to message me any advice as to what the best parts are; My goal is to keep her NA. Thanks all and hope to talk and meet some of you soon!! Happy Tuning!
