Introduce yourself here!
Sigh.....forgot to mention i have a dealer horror story as well....forgot to do my initial "inspection" (as idiot me was too excited to grasp the actuality of doing something right), and didnt notice that the dealer backed the car into SOMETHING and flattened the bottom of the right exhaust tip. it also hangs a bit lower.
called the dealer fuming and they quickly ordered the parts and gave me a break on the ipod install. hopefully friday all will be fixed.
let you know...

2+2, welcome to s2ki.com, and congrats on your purchase.
There is an extremely active SoCal forum here on s2ki.com: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showforum=16
I'm glad our forum helped bring you to the car. I have no doubt you'll love owning your S. Good luck getting the exhaust fixed.

Hi! Brand new to this site and guess what?!?! I NEED HELP! 2002 SK2 in the shop...they claim the valves are bent from downshifting while revving. I bought it as a "Certified Pre-Owned" from the dealer. under 44K mile son it. I've only had it 9 months. I'm 36. I put 200K+ miles on a BMW (standard transmission) with no problems. Are they claiming I was racing or something? I wasn't! Anyway, they say the warranty won't cover the damage since I did it. HELP! I don't want to go "in pocket" for something I didn't do but how do I fight this? Thanks, everyone!
Unfortunately, mechanical overrev is one of the risks of buying the S2000, particularly on the used market. There isn't anything we can advise you on here, rdavis.
Plead your case to the district service manager (insist to speak with him/her). Valve damage can show up in a delayed fashion, presumably as in your case. On the other hand, you cannot prove that you didn't do the damage in the 9 months that you've owned the car.
Best of luck.

HI ALL! I introduced myself in the wrong place before, anyhow, I'm Dave, I traded an 01 1.8t gti for an s2000 this weekend. I love it, and am looking to mod it and attend some upcoming midatlantic events.
Chaz. I understand what you are saying. No, I cannot prove I didn't do it. But, shouldn't the dealer have to prove I did? Any stories of other causes? While I'd love to race this thing, I never have. I have "tested" it....speed, cornering, etc. All the fun stuff that this machine allows us to enjoy. But, (from reading on articles this topic today) I am being accused of the dreaded "money shift"....5th to 2nd or something akin to that. Never done it! Never! Shouldn't the burden be on them to prove I have? Seems to me either 1) older owner did it but didn't damage it enough then or 2) some other cause while I've had it. right? suggestions? Thanks. FYI -- either way plan to keep the car and be a "better" member from now on.

Yes, rdavis. That is essentially correct. They are saying that you did a money shift. And, even if you didn't, and the previous owner did, I don't know that the warrantee would cover it.
That said, one would think that Honda certification should mean they did a compression test (I don't know...) and would have spotted a problem before it was sold to you.
Well, one of the AHM guys told us a few years ago that they could absolutely tell by looking at the pistons and the valves whether or not the car had been over-revved. Perhaps there are other causes, but I don't know.
Unfortunately, our year engine computer didn't track things like that. I think MY06 does, but I'm not positive. Too bad. If it did, you could find out exactly what / when the problem happened, and maybe AHM would be sympathetic if you could prove it was the previous owner.
Overrev damage is peculiar because, as I tried to say earlier, sometimes it doesn't show up for quite a while.
Good luck.

Actually, there are quite a few threads dealing with overrev claims, etc. I'd poke around with the search function for a while. You might get some technical advice in the under-the-hood forum and possibly in S2000 talk, but I'll warn you ahead of time... be ready for some major flames. This is your first day here after owning the car for 9 months, and you're an unknown guest, so people will not likely take your word for what happened. OTOH, you won't find much love for AHM on this subject.
Good luck.
Good luck.
well i figured I would officially introduce myself. I've been on here for quite some time but never actually made an intro. I'm 21, going into my last year of college and when I graduate will be picking up an S2000. I've wanted one for an extremely long time but don't expect someone to buy it for me, as I want the purchase to be all by myself. Anyway, for the past year+ I've enjoyed this site and will hopefully post more now that my intro has been made!
