looking to buya s2000
From what I've read in this forum, the most common things that can happen to our cars is:
1- Cracked valve retainers from over-reving on a down shift.
2- Change all your fluids, transmission with Original Honda MTF, differential with 90W oil, and my choice, engine oil Mobil 1 Syntethic 10w30, and get the Honda oil filter 15400-PCX-004.
3- If you are used to FWD cars, be very careful learning to take fast corners with the S, the tail will break loose very easily, practice, practice, practice, before you start driving it fast.
4- Rear tires are very important to have enough life left on them, specially in the rain.
5- Check all around for body damage from a bad accident, overspray, etc.

Yes, it will still drive but if they are cracked, they will continue to crack to the point of breaking and the retainers will come off and it will suck a valve into the combustion chamber. The only way to know in what condition they are is to take off the valve cover and visually inspect them, I don't think the owner of this or any car will let you do this before you buy it, the reason I mentioned this is in case you buy the car you should have them inspected so you don't have a problem later on. Do a search on valve retainers so you can see pictures and more info. I'm not trying to scare you, just keep it in mind because it is a very important issue and replacement won't cost you that much but repairs after they fail will.
