Default Looking into buying an S2k, have a few questions.

1st off let me introduce myself a bit. My name is Lenny and I have been an avid Rx-7 enthusiast for the past 7-8 years or so. I have owned ~10 Rx-7s from all generations, and currently own a '94 undergoing an LS1 V-8 conversion. I enjoy all types of racing, favoring road courses the mose but do like to take a trip to the drag strip occasionally. Ive posted a pic of my current FD below. Anyway, lately I have been thinking of picking up a newer car , and a S2000 is on the top of my list. I admittedly don't know a whole lot about the cars, so Im here to learn, I just want a bit of direction. 1st off, while I like the way the cars look, I know I will not be happy with the power they produce N/A. With my Rx-7s I usually was happy with the speed/power at about the 350RWHP mark ( current LS1 shooting for ~475), so being the power/torque curves of an boosted S2k are similar to a boosted rotary, I would assume Id be looking for a turbo setup capable of 350-400 RWHP on pump gas. Reliability is also a big concern of mine, and Id like it to remain emissions legal. With these constraints, is this a possibilty with these cars? Also, with building my cars I know when making big power, you just expose the next weakest link. Tranny/driveshaft/rear end/ axles, etc.. How are the S2ks driveline components at these power levels, and if they are weak, are there bolt-in aftermarket solutions? Sorry for all the questions, but hopefully some of you guys can give me answers or at least point me in the right direction to find them. Thanks

first off...amazing rx7, i love it!!! making over 300 hp is very realistic. a lot of s2k owners go with a supercharger kit, but i've seen that a lot of the power is with a turbo. a simple bolt on supercharger/turbo kit should put you at/over 300 whp, of course with some decent tuning. you should pm blacknugget. he built a pretty wicked S, which i'm sure he made well over 500 hp. as for the drivetrain, not the strongest when pushed to the limits. trannies will hold some power, buuuut, the differentials tend to be weak in some areas. there is a company that makes a diff conversion kit, to swap in a nissan diff. anyways, also, you should do some searching on the site to see the differences in all the years, maybe to see what best suits your driving. welcome to the site!

I have a supercharged s2000 for sale in NJ. PM me 4 pics. Anyway the rearend is weak, Comptech has a stronger one you can buy. You will need a stronger cluch disk. I dont know about inspection in your state but if you have EMS system in NJ you will not pass(there is ways you can get around it though). Low torque numbers, but revs to 9k(ap1) Never had problems with my comptech supercharger set up. hope this helps

Thanks for the info. As for emissions, alls I have to worry about is it passing a sniffer and having all the required components. My local place is cool about aftermarket modifications, but I cant get around the legalities of the emissions/OBD2 tests.
