I've just recently been bitten by the S2k bug and I have been on the hunt for a good used one to modify and have some fun with on my weekends off. (Just took upon a new job that is going to eat my life away during the weeks, and I live right on the edge of some beautiful national forest with lots of twist and fun. So here are my questions:

What years should I truly be looking out for?

2004+? 2000+? What's the difference other than the engine and years.

AP1? AP2? What does all that mean?

Where are good places to find decently priced used ones? (Really don't want new because all I am going to do is modify it)

Any disadvantages with buying a 80k+ mileage S2k? Name your experiences please.

Anything else I should be looking out for? or Looking for!

Also, CR? What is that mean? I think I heard something about it including a hardtop on newer models.

Last but not least, I would like to stay under $15k-17k. Does anyone think this is possible to get a decent S2k?

I am looking for more in depth questions and trying to introduce myself. Search isn't always an answer especially when I have multiple questions that one individual can answer.

 

I hope the following answers can help you;
1) ap1 is the 1st gen with 2.0L engine
2) ap2 is 2nd gen with 2.2L
3) If you want VSA(traction & stability control) must be 2006-09
4) CR= Club Racer 08-09(you won't be able to buy this model with the price you are looking to spend and yes it does come with hard top(but no soft top)
5) Do a lot of research on the net and papers.
