how much does the car weigh?
taken straight from motor trend.
an MR2 weighs in at 2657 LBS
60-0 in 107 feet (yes I know that outbrakes a corvette Z06)
skid pad: .94g on 15 inch rims and pizza cutter tires. (yes I know that is the same result as a Ferrari F40, dispite the Ferrari being on much larger rims/tires, with little room to grow vs the mr2 which has nothing but room to grow.)

So this thread has brought up a few questions I forgot to ask and maybe got lsot in the post.
Would I wish I had spent the extra money on a newer model S2K or is the 2000 model year about the same as the new ones, and how does it take to mods Vs the newer models? What can I expect/ hope for with basic bolt ons?
Does the S2k come with a non interference head?

I have both.
I have a gen3 + gt28rs mr2 and a 07 s2k.
I like the s2000 being na, maybe not as fast as a turbo mr2 but s2000 is really fun to drive as na.
The interior is a big different. I like how the feel of s2000 more than mr2.
I think t-top mr2 weight very close to s2000.

They are with in a few hundred LBS. I only know a general figure... The S2K weighs in at about 2800 LBS, the MR2 weighing in at a little less at 2657 LBS.
I think you are the one I want to ask questions the most to. The S2K feels totally different but in a great/ awesome way right? Please say yes. That's what I want to hear.
Here's a page straight out of Motortrend quoting weight, braking, skidpad

does the S2k weight more, pull a lower skid pad and take longer to brake from 60-0? If yes how does that feel. Sometimes I feel spoiled by my MR2, and it's magizine numbers.
The MR2 has been called a poor man's Ferrari more then once, including this page out of Motortrend (baby Ferrari) My ass is use to a Ferrari like feel but with out the cost. I'll looking for a newer model car that still gives me, and pro drivers that same feel.

If you are just interested in dyno numbers and going in a straight line by all means the S2K is not the car for you. If your a DRIVER that enjoys a to my opinion a perfect shifter, top down driving, balanced driving dynamics, and the sound of a perfect shift at 9k then get a S2K.

I want an all around package like my current car. When the MR2 gets quoted as a poor man's Ferrari or a Baby Ferrari, out brakes Z06's, pulls equal skid pad numbers as a F40's, does 13.3 in the quarter with out a dime put into it, I have a certain level of expectation, and don't want to spend thousands only to be disapointed and think god they had it right in the 90's. My t-tops have been off my car this entire spring/summer other then 2 times. I love that with the MR2 I had the option of hard top, t-top, convertible, or sun roof. Where are these kind of options these days? The MR2 pulls impressive IMO quarter mile times, 13.3, and amazing around the track numbers. It outbrakes almost any car I assume, and the .94 g while not the best is still impressive. You bring up a question... where do you feel the S2k falls short? what could have been improved from the factory?
I also liked how the MR2 came with a FACTORY option of a Widebody, and 493 HP Factory backed.

The Toyota Technocraft Ltd. TRD2000GT MR2 had a 60 mm (2.4 in) wider front and rear track (due to the addition of wider wheels and tires) which improved handling considerably over the original equipment. Virtually every car converted also had other TRD parts fitted too including extensive changes to both the suspension and engine. Most cars left the factory making more power due to TRD bolt-ons, some cars even left the factory boasting up to 500 PS (493 hp/368 kW) and less than 1100 kg (2425 lb) for a very impressive power to weight ratio.

I really like how the Factory option of a 2425 LB car with 500 PS/ 493 HP was/is there for Mr2 buyers.
