Need some opinion
I currently own an IS300 but am looking to get an S2k. I THINK i've found one that is a good price but I'm not sure.
It is a 2001 Yellow S2k. It has about 120k miles. There ARE a few things that are wrong with it. The top was cut and repaired with some black goo thing. The differential is broken. and.. there is a dent on the right door, which will need to be replaced and painted. His asking is 9,000. It is also a 2nd owner and clean title in CA. Any suggestions?
I will be able to do the differential myself, but i would liek to know how much one costs. And i would liek to know the cost of an oem door?
Thanks in advance

Well, I'd buy it for $7k and spend the money saved on fixing the car up properly. I personally wouldn't trust the engine and would need to pull the head and inspect all the valves for damage in addition to leak down tests, etc.
Generally speaking, a new diff will set you back $1,500 or so, the top, $1,500 or so, and a door replaced and painted probably $2,000. $7k plus $5k in repairs would bring the car close to blue book value... This is all assuming the rest of the car is in great shape, but it doesn't sound that great to me.
Maybe you should keep looking - there are lots of babied S2000s out there. The problems in plain site indicate the owner did not take the best car of the car, so what else is wrongthat you can't see?

Hey thanks for the quick replies.
The top was some sort of vandalism..
The differential he claims is a common problem on AP1s.
The interior is well taken care of. So is the exterior minus the door.
the short block WAS replaced at 35k by the 1st owner.
Other than that I can't really think of anything.
