I had an accident yesterday and the back of my s2k is hurt badly. I lost control on an icy road and the car hit the sidewalk and a stop sign. Now I have to replace the rear bumper, one quarter panel at the back, 2 mags and the trunk needs to be repainted.
Now, I'm thinking about repainting my black S2K yellow but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Anyone knows if it's worth it?

I'm no expert, but I think it is really expensive to do a repaint in a different color. In order to do it right, you need the motor pulled out, and the interior gutted. If your car is yellow, and the door jambs and engine bay are black, I think the value would go down.

Would it be any better that it's yellow on black, so at least the door jams are a neutral color?

Oh my, no, don't even think about that. Your resale value will suffer. Factory paint is something you should treasure and keep as much of as possible. Any part of your car that is repainted will never look the same unless you spend thousands to have the moldings, seals, panels, motor, etc. pulled. Basically a restoration project. Black is timeless anyways.

If you really want yellow, repair your back and trade for a yellow. It may not cost any more than a yellow repaint and you would have a new car...

Unfortunately they don't sell yellow in Canada (or white).

I am from Montreal too and haven't had a problem. What winter tires do you have? I am running Yokohoma Guardex 600s and they work great.

Where did you have your accident?

Rob

Repaint in another color will cost you $$$. First off I expect you want factory quality or better which means gutting the car (engine, engine bay, interior, everything). Then you want a top quality show car job.

If you do it right it will not suffer a loss of value (especially if it's better than stock, not hard) but I wouldn't do it a stockish color. You are talking thousands to do well.

COnsider trading it in "as is". I've done it before. Some dealers will still give you a very good trade in since they can repair it and resell it for much less than it would cost you to fix it.
