Need used car help !
well this is my 3rd time posting on this forum and its FINALLY closing in on the purchase of an s2000... after thinking about it long and hard i've pretty much decided to go for the s2k over the 350z smile.gif
Well after all taht said, i do have a few questions about purchasing a used car:
1) how can we tell if the car has been in an accident or not. I think i heard something somewhere on the forum about checking some parts for a vin number or a serial number or something and if they all matched, then its been accident free? If so can i know which parts?
2) how about lean? Im not sure about this but when i consulted my dad he just wants to make sure that when i pick up the car, im not picking up a car for like 30 000 and then being scammed into taking up this guys lease on the car all the while the guy decides to skip town or something liek that?
3) Can someone explain how the tax works here in canada? i believe that when u buy privately you don't need to pay GST, how about PST?
Any other suggestions on picking up a used car besides making sure its in decent shape?
how about specific things to the s2000 to look for?
Thanks in advance for all your contributions biggrin.gif

1. Run a carfax on the car. Go to carfax.com and enter the VIN number, and make sure that it comes back clean.
Each of the body panels has the VIN number stamped on it. Make sure that it matches. If it doesn't, that body panel has been replaced.
2. Make sure that the car you're buying doesn't have a lien against it. A lien is basically a bank owning the car until it's paid off. You just need to have the title in hand before handing over the money. It's the safest way to do it.
3. Don't know, not in Canada.
