Default New to the forums, new to driving stick

I posted a small introduction already, but I figured I'd make a topic as well as ask a few question. I got my s2k at the beginning of August. It is technically used, but I picked it up with 800 miles on it. It is a 2006 Berlina Black with black seats. The guy had to get back surgery, so he sold me his car for a pretty good deal (at least I think so). I got it for 28k with Permeplate and Lo jack. I got it inspected first and everything was in working order. It looks brand new so I can't complain. There is 1 small paint chip on the hood though =/.

As to my question, I have never driven stick prior to this and I am looking for some tips. My first car was an automatic prelude and I'm still driving it to work. During the school year, I will be finishing my last year of college, I'll be taking my prelude instead. My sister is going to be driving my s2k while I'm in college and helping me pay off the rest of the loans. I live in the mountains and on a hill and I can drive it around, but I don't feel like I really know what I'm doing. I shift really slow and I think I'm actually driving slower than my prelude in my s2k. My friends tell me it's just experience and after driving it more, I'll figure things out on my own. I only drive it about an hour a day after work...working full days now to pay my loans ( well the loans are to my parents, so I could probably take as much time as I need to pay it off ). Anyways if anyone has any good advice in general that would be great. The strange thing is, I'm not even really a car person, but I think I'm becoming more of one.

Here are some pictures:

Cheers,

Jeff

I like your car man. It looks really nice. You got to love that Berlina Black S2000 look. With concerns to driving stick, my only advise is to just get out and drive. For a little while go ahead and late at night go to a large parking lot, preferably with some sort of slope to it, and then start driving around. High School Parking lots and Mall Parking lots work great. back when I learned how to drive stick, I learned and was good enough to feel comfortable on the road in about 2 or 3 nights of driving around parking lots and side streets. The S is actually a really easy car to drive. I dont think you will have any trouble with it. Good luck man, and have fun.

Black cars are nice! It picks up dirt like no other though =/. I washed it for 2 hours over the weekend and within a few days it got all dirty again. Now I just have to learn what all these terms people use on the forums mean. I want to treat my car well, but I know nothing about cars =X. I guess I'll just lurk around the forums till I have enough knowledge to contribute.

Did you rinse your car with mineral water?
Before taking the picture?
(those 2 bottles on the ground, top picture at the right)

Welcome

Congratulations on your purchase and particularly your color choice!

You'll do fine with the tranny after some practice. It's much smoother than the '69 VW I learned to drive manual on.

Just drive it more and you'll get the hang of it soon or later. Be careful and watch the tach when downshifting so you won't over-rev it. Enjoy your new car!

Welcome, Jeff. Take your time getting used to the stick, and don't push it! Black is great, but lots of work. Pay some visits to the wash and wax forum to get familiar with the myriad products and methods for caring for your new car.

Congrats on your car! (I came from a Prelude to the S2000 too!)

Stick just comes in a matter of time. Take it easy and don't rush. Driving your Prelude to work is a good idea. You want to drive without the extra stress and pressure.

As for being a car guy ... hehe ya, you'll become one after driving this
