Hey folks, I just registered on this forum because I want to buy/build a track-worthy car. I want something reliable and powerful enough to explore the limits of my capabilities progressively while not breaking the bank. Every person I've talked to says the s2k is a great car for this cause, so I'm here to learn more and maybe help figure out what to buy. I'll be perusing your site for stickie knowledge but if any of you have some highlights for a newbie, I'm happy to learn. I have the common questions like what years to avoid (if any), what model year difference exist that matter, ad nauseum.

Some stats that might help add color:
34 year old dude
I've owned various sports cars in the past including a '95 300ZXtt, a '91 240sx, '78 280z, Infiniti G35, and now a G37 for daily driving (I like Nissans, I guess). On the "Honda" front, I've only owned a TSX and a TL. No rear-drive zingers so far.
I'm mechanically competent, and very willing to get down and dirty. Practically speaking, the only work I can't do due to lack of a lift are engine and tranny pulls (for now), which is why I'd like a reliable car. I'm totally comfortable with doing suspension work and installing a turbo kit for example (though I want to stay NA for now).
I live in Arlington, VA but I just moved here from the SF Bay Area so I'm a California boy at heart. I have no idea where to go to track out here, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Recommendations appreciated.

Thanks and looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hey ash. I would say get an ap1 (years 00-03) if it's your track car simply because the ap1 gives the racecar experience compared to the ap2 and of course the 9k rpm helps add to the experience. I would say get an 02 or 03 because of the suspension upgrade, but the 00 or 01 for the pure raw track experience for the car was originally made for the track right off the factory, then it was slowly upgraded to suit daily driving, for a sports car. However if you've got the money, get a cr because it's tuned more for the track with the ap2 tranny and diff, which are better than the ap1 tranny and diff. These are of course my opinions and if anyone else can correct me or add more information, that would be great because i would like to learn more too unfortunately i have no track experience (yet!) so this is what i can offer you for now. Good luck with your search and welcome!!

I have been living in Arlington for the last 8 years. The closest track is Summit Point in WV. http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/i...id=14&Itemid=7

You can also get up to NJ too.

If you are in law enforcement maybe you can get them to let you use the hidden track in Chantilly.
