Default New Member Looking for an S2000

Hey everyone,

New member here. I'm looking to buy an S2000 at a dealership. Its a silver 04 with 77k miles. So far everything mechanically checks out.I'm going to have a mechanic buddy double check for me tomorrow. Cosmetically, though it has a couple of dings and scratches but i see that as a plus since i've seen a lot of resprayed S2000s that look like they've been in accidents. It will definitely need a top soon as well.

Anyway, I talked down the dealer to $15,000. Is this a fair price? I checked KBB and it says thats a little too much but I've noticed a lot of S2000s selling for above book value. Wanted to ask your opinions. I've been reading your buyers guide and any feedback would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome

I'd try to get the price down a little more especially since it will need a new top soon. But you are right, these cars are selling for more than book value right now and they're selling fast.

It's a decent price, check with the dealership on it's maintenance history. Good luck.

Where are you from? I just bought a 2007 S2000 mint condition with 6,500 miles from Bridgewater Acura in Bridgewater, NJ. Last time I checked they had a 2008 chicane silver S2000 with 36,000 miles for sale. They have a dedicated team that searches the country for S2000's, buys them and brings them back to their dealership. They only sell mint condition, low mileage cars.

Good luck and welcome!

Thanks Rick, I'm in Middlesex. My friend also bought one there and he recommended them as well. I've seen 4 so far with clean car faxes but were definitely in wrecks. Anyway, we agreed on 15k pending my mechanic friend check it out the next day. The next day the car all of a sudden is "on a lift getting a new clutch." I told him i want to put a deposit down so no one drives it. The clutch has to be properly broken in. He claimed " its fine as long as you don't do burnouts" and he wouldn't stop everyone else from test driving it. His attitude and my gut told me back off so i said no thank you, no longer interested. He texts me after bragging he sold the car from $17900 w/o a test drive. What a douche bag.

Update - APPARENTLY HE DIDN'T MAKE THE SALE CAUSE ITS BACK UP ON THE WEBSITE WITH A PRICE CHANGE! HAHAH

Of all the cars/motorcyles I've bought over the years, I believe you usually get what you pay for. That's ok if you are a DIY. I prefer to get the nicest, trouble free car I can afford because I don't want someone else's problems. If you like yellow, there's a guy in Mechanicsburg, PA selling a 2006 with about 22,000 miles and was asking $24,000. It's on craigslist (Harrisburg).
Middlesex......isn't that MD?

I know but this car had no serious problems despite scratches and normal wear from what i can see. I just wanted reassurance from a friend cause the dealership was too shady. I am going to be doing most of the work myself on the car regardless. This would be my 4th car. However, I'm not going to deal with rust or a car thats been in an accident. I'm in Middlesex, NJ. There are probably a few middlesex(s) in most states. My friend got his 04 for $17k or so with about 23,000 miles and it looks great. I know they're gems out there for the right price. I'm just going to be patient.
