New member with a not so stock S
So, as the title states, New member with a not so stock S.
About me
26 years old.
had 28 (this is 29) cars in my life.
Worked for static x motorsports in Huntsville/Madison AL for about 3 years.
Took all those wonderful EFI 101 classes.
Tuned everything from chrome, to access ports, AEM's, haltechs, even an F-con once, that was cool.
Stacked a GCC on a VPC, with an ITC and a SAFc2 on a mk3 supra with an na 2jz swap running factory 7m electronics and a t88 @15Psi on a stock 10(to 10.2ish??):1 compression running 100 octane low lead AvGas. (and swapped out the quartz crystal so the computer though time was going by faster than it really was, and allowed the car to rev to 8200 vs the stock 6500 RPM redline)
So I joined the army about a year ago, after basic/ait, and 202K miles of faithful service, it was time to retire my 95 LS400. Got pretty good money out of it, guy that bought it paid me what I paid for it 3 years earlier, and paid a premium to keep all the mods I had done over those 3 years. So armed with a decent chunk of change, and a REALLY good view on Lexus, and their reliability, I snagged an immaculate 2001 is300, millennium silver metallic, black leather and suede, and the kicker, 84K original, 1 owner, Arizona miles. The original owner had every service done at the dealership, every time they suggested something, he paid for it, and did the 90K service at 78. I was VERY pleased with my purchase.
Fast forward 3 months.
Realized that automatics were no fun.
Realized 165 WHP was SLOW.
Realized that silver was about the absolute worst color for an IS 300 on the planet.
Threw my IS up on CL, started looking around, and narrowed it down to 4 cars.
Another IS (only 5 speed and not silver)
g35 6sp
350 6sp
s2000
Found several of these, all had little issues I didn't like, and stumbled across this, first on Manheim (dealer only auction which I snuck in the back door of), and after speaking with the dealer, on ebay (selling from miami).

This will be my second car purchase off ebay, the first turned out nicely, hopefully this one does as well.
Now for the good stuff.
As best I can tell this looks like the pfab kit, but I am pretty new to the S2k chasis, and available kits, so we will find out definitively when it gets here next week.
AP2 motor with 30K miles on it
AP2 diff (which they claim as an upgrade but I'm pretty sure they're the same, any input?)
act stage 5 clutch
aluminum flywheel
version 1 AEM EMS
PTE 6265
720CC injectors
Tial 44 gate and BOV
4 inch IC core
walbro 255 with return fuel system
And a new AP2 top with glass rear window.
Car has been advertised at 450, and 500 WHP.
As for background, what I was told is this car was built by speed shop Miami as a shop car, but then they got their hands on a c6 z06 and decided to go that route. I called to try to get some more info on the car, and they said it had been quiet some time since they had built that car. Kind of worries me, but kinda reassures me at the same time. If some idiot had got a hold of it, I figure it would have either been blown up, or wrecked by then, and the fact that at least from the pics it's in really good condition makes me think it's been well taken care of.
If anyone down in Miami area knows anything about this car, it would be great if you would chime in, but other than that, I just wanted to drop a line and introduce myself.
Plans for the car. Make sure its running right, lol.
Already have an AEM failsafe on the way so I can get a good read on o2's, not even sure if it has a wideband gauge in car, or how old the sensor is if it has one.
Drain/flush/fill on all fluids I can get my hands on. Pull the intake, check the turbo ect. Spark plugs, normal maint stuff. It's like a giant guess what you paid for game. Normally I wouldn't be to keen on the idea, but I got a pretty good deal
Anyway, enough rambling

Blew up on the way home... LOL
24-26 degrees timing at WOT
ANDDD
the wastegate boost reference fitting backed out, so god knows how much it spike to.
Was spinning in 3rd at onset of boost.
Spun in 4th when the motor went.
I want to be mad about it, but I was 30 miles away from RSP and a tune, so I kinda brought it on myself.
Oh well, time to make it faster, and safer, and less blown up than before.
