Exclamation New, not yet popped though.

Hello all,
My name is Ericson and I am from Caifornia, USA. I currently do not own a Honda S2000, but I am very close to just doing the deed. I love the S2000, it's a very beautiful car. Hopefully you guys don't mind me joining you in the forums even though I don't have an S2000 yet. I currently drive a slightly modified Scion tC. It's a very nice car, but just not what I am looking for. I believe the S2000 is what I am looking for. (I plan on hard topping it..I think)

So, the things that I really like about the S2000..(mind you i drive a tC):
-RWD
-237 hp
-2 seater
-beautiful
-push start
-sounds nice
- ugh everything..

Anyway..I am a track o holic..drag/ auto-x. How do you guys think the S2000 holds in Auto-x? The tC is not bad at auto-x. First gear runs out at 29 mph so It's nice to be able to downshift to second and still have breath.

What do you guys like about your S2000's? What can i tell my parents to convince them that this is my choice, my money, and my LOVE!? (I like to have my parents approval in big decisions like this)

Anyway, here is a pic of my tired car...

I really want my S2k Now!
Where are you guys from?

Welcome aboard!!

The S2000 holds up very well to Auto-x. There are several members here that can attest to the S2000's durability. Its not really a great drag car, but that doesn't mean you can't, just watch your clutch, diff., axles etc.

Things I love about my S - Top down, spirited drives, 9000 RPM, handling that's wired into my brain...... the list goes on and on.

Good luck with your decision!!

I'm sure the S2k is much more of a drag car than the tC is. Lol. I'm all about the twisties though, I can live without going fast in a straight line. Boy do I like the sound of "spirited drives" .

What do you mean watch the clutch diff. and axels? are they weak?

they're "weak" if you launch incorrectly and do damage. launch properly and you're fine.

just a personal thought...trying to convince your parents to say ok to you having an s2k sounds damn near impossible. the car is not practical in any sense. it's way too fast. it's convertible. it's way more expensive than a tc.

and if you like your tc in auto-x, the s2k will blow your mind.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of insurance into those monthly payments. You may find that insurance payments are more than your car payments.

Scroll down on the main forum page and you will see there are regional clubs. This is an international site so you will find people from all over the world.

Insurance is high because younger people buy S2000s and promptly spin out into trees - no stability control before 2006 and rwd and power is something that needs to be respected.

Number one cost is probably tires. Especially if you track the car - you'll probably just want to get a second set of 16" rims and rubber for track day. Figure $500-600 for a set of decent inexpensive tires, $1k for OEM.

With regard to burn outs - the redline is 8-9k, and you can't drop the clutch below 5.5-6k without seriously stressing the drivetrain, since the tires won't break traction. People break their cars by doing 4k clutch dumps and not breaking traction.

Also, this is a Honda. They are super reliable and virtually maintenance free. They get good gas mileage and have 4 star frontal and five star side impact ratings. Its an outstanding car. Tell your parents its a convertible Civic.

There's actually a good amount of storage space for this type of car. And if you have the soft top up, you can store stuff in the top well behind the seats too.

PS - not sure what car you're looking at, but I'd aim for an 02 or 03 for price per feature set. Nothing wrong with 00 and 01s, but they have the plastic rear windows, inferior sound systems, and more TSBs that needed to be done - outside of warranty, that work may cost you.

Also, a leak down and compression test should be done to make sure the engine is strong.

I was 20 when I got my S2000. I paid roughly $200 a month in insurance, with a $400 per car payment. I was employeed full time, so I was able to keep up the payments. I've had the car over 3 years now and insurance has dropped considerably.

Tires are a very costly part of the S2000 especially if you do a lot of spirited drives or Auto-x. My front tires last about 20,000 miles and my rears end up 8-10,000 depending on how I use them.
