New, not yet popped though.
Ah I see; thanks everyone. Yes Insurance will be a bitch for a while, but I can live with that. Is there any difference between the engine's in all of the S2k Generations? I like the bodystyle of the brand new ones..I'm not to fond of used cars but I might just have to for this bad boy.
Anyone who does 4k+ clutch drops is an idiot. I can't even do it in my tC. I always have to slip, no matter what. So is that the key to launching the S2000? Slippage? Carefully slipping?
Tires/wheels/suspension is always first in my book, so I know what's up with the tires. I'm probably going to do suspension before the tires..unless you guys think stock rubber is crap. For the tC stock rubber is total crap and should be removed immediately. Once I get this car..nothing crappy goes on it.
So anything else I should know guys? I hear tien has an awesome coilover package for the S2k.
I also hear Inevidia? exhaust is pretty good, what do you guys have to say about exhaust?
How is the shortshifter market for the S2k?
Ahh so many questions..so little time!

The S2000 sucks:
-RWD
Not AWD. Can't drive the car in a snow storm, and spins out easily when you drive it crazy on the streets.
-237 hp
Too little power. Everyone has over 280bhp with a turbo nowadays.
-2 seater
Too little space. Not practical at all. Doesn't even have a proper glove box. Can't take more than 1 girl out at a time.
-beautiful
It's a 7yr old car. It's been around for a while.
-push start
A lot of new cars have that ...
-sounds nice
Exhaust is too quiet, and sounds crappy when you floor it.
j/k Well, just drive it. You'll come back with a big smile, and your parents will be convinced
Anyway, Invidia runs on the "loud" side of the scale. You should run a search in the S2000 Talk forum and see. Maybe even Gallery forum might have a clip or two (try www.s2000library.com as well -- though only take these as a grain of salt as they are filmed using different cameras, recorders, etc).
For the shortshifter, I would say drive the car for a while first before getting it. Some people shorten the throw by getting a countersunk shift knob, while other go for a short shifter. A countersunk shift knob + a shortshifter is overkill (because the shortshifter also sits a little lower). There is a pretty extensive thread about this topic in S2000 Talk forum.
Anyhow, I would drive the car in stock form for a while. The S2000 is designed very well from the factory. Unlike many other cars, the S2000 doesn't need much work "out of the box" for you to have a lot of fun.
BTW ... welcome to the board

You don't slip the clutch, you dump it. You have to slip your clutch because you have a fwd car. If you slip your clutch you'll glaze it in no time.
If I were you, Id get the car and enjoy it stock for a year, then see what you can afford to mod. Premium gas, tires, and insurance can cost a pretty penny.

Ks320 haha you got me there, I thought you were a prude owner who doesn't want more kids driving his car. I guess you can say I'm kinda like that..I used to hate seeing other people with tC's. But now I don't care because I know I'm getting my S2k.
btw, AWD is over rated. 237hp is plenty of juice for me. I'm used to driving slow cars. Besides I'm all about the Turns anyway, thats also where RWD shines. Who said beautiful can't be aged? 2 seater is what I am looking foward too..no more DD, no more people asking for rides..it's just me and the navigator
Exhaust is quiet!? Push start gets me hard.
Why do you have to dump the clutch on a RWD car? How can you launch good below 4k rpm? Shouldn't we launch in VTEC? Just what I heard..I'll do some research. Thanks for the valuble info guys.
I was planning on going FI on my tC, so premium gas doesn't phaz me. Insurance..I'll get over, tires on the other hand..why does the tire on the s2k run out so fast? Thats not a bad news in the beggining since I'm going to want new wheels/tires anyway..but they run low on aftmarket rubber too? I don't drive crazy everyday...
I've never heard of a countersunk knob but it sounds interesting. What do you mean by "countersunk knob + shortshifter = overkill"? Does it just mean there's not enough leverage becaues the shifter is so short that it can actually slow down your shifts due to the force it takes to shift? Is the S2k a direct link or calbe shifter? I've been playing around with the stock shifter on the tC and I've designed a few new shifters that actually are shorter than any aftermarket ones offered for the tC. I'm sure I can figure somehting out if my options are limited for the S2k, which i doubt since it is a seven year old car. lol.
So how wide can we go in the back before we start rubbing?

Yes, the proper way to launch an S is 5.5-6k. This ensures the wheels break traction and the energy goes out the drivetrain instead of breaking the diff, for example. People don't launch with sufficient roms and then complain that the car sucks at launching...
You should always dump the clutch, period, if you are trying to launch a car. slipping the clutch will cook the plates and destroy the essembly in no time. I said you probably feather yours in a fwd car to keep the front wheels from spinning too much. In a rwd car you don't have to worry since the weight is pushing the rear wheels down - more traction.
Tire compoounds for the S are soft and sticky, and the wheels are staggered so you can't rotate them. So, they wear out faster.
The S has a direct link shifter - I like the countersunk knobs, other like short shifters, and a few have both, but that is like sliding a penny around on a table imo - its very short.
Read the wheel and tire FAQs for your tire questions - lots of info there.

Ah I see..So what RPM is asking for trouble by dropping the clutch?
Ah DUH! can't rotate..I knew that.
What is a countersunk knob? Okay I'm off to read FAQ's.
Are there suspension reviews on here? What seems to be the best performance wise, and the best compromise wise (performance/economy)?
I guess I'm up to doin some research!
Thanks guys.

How wide you can go all depends on the offsets of your rims. The S2000 uses special sizes so most rims would not fit. If you want to improve the performance of your car, plan on a couple thousand for new rims plus a thousand for tires. Save money buying used quality rims and not cheap new rims. It is very far from cheap to mod this car and improve on it.
The stock shifter is already short. No need for a short shifter.
The s2000 come all but maxed out from the factory. Its hard to go from modded cars to the S because it really isn't needed. Drive the car stock and see what you think before you start throwing money into mods. Also do research before any mod purchase. Half the time you think you are saving money on a cheaper part when in fact you are decreasing the performance of your car.
You have to pay to play. This is hardly a kids car.
That being said, if all you are going for is looks, you can do it pretty cheap. But don't expect your car to perform as well as stock.
If you are looking at suspension first, plan on coilovers. Cheapest that are an improvement over stock seem to be PSS9 and KW3 both in the just under 2K range. Springs are only for looks although some may argue exceptions.

Sorry guys..been busy with school passed few days.
Ah I see what a countersunk knob does. I don't mind having the knob sit at stock or a "high" height. It's faster shifts. Less time between your knob and wheel. Just as long as the actual throw is reduced.
I'm glad to hear the S2000 holds it's own in Auto-X.
..and I am careful when it comes to modding my car. Especially if it's a $30,000 car. The first thing I was planning on was some Coilovers. I've heard some good things about the Tien..shoot I forget the name of the set for hte S2k bu tit's their best one for hte S2k.
Yes I am getting an AP2. Still torn between GPW and Black.. I own a black car now..I sort of am looking for change. We'll see..
Derr: thanks for the link, very helpful. I am very aware I have to pay to play when it comes to this car. It's not cheap.
So..what do you guy slike abou thte S2k the best?

You can always make a fun car go faster, but you can't make a fast car become more fun

And of course, the tranny is part of the "fun factor" equation
