Default New owner

Hello, I bought my S about 2 weeks ago, and so far it's the best car I ever owned. It's 01 S2000 with 55k miles, new soft top; the car is pretty much stock expect for Bilstein PS9 coilovers with adjustable shocks. My previous car was 05 350Z, it's great car but S is definitely way better engineered car. Interior of S >>> interior of Z. Anyway, after about a week of driving I got into parking lot accident (still angry at myself ); I'm not used to the huge blind spots (it's my first roadster), so I was backing out of the parking spot and didn't see the car, so my rear bumper scratched the other car's rear quarter and wheel... I was wondering is it possible to just respray the bumper cover myself or should I just take it to the body shop. I'm actually trying to do it myself, it's a good learning experience.

Now, some pics of old car, and new.

I would def take it to a body shop, and have them repair/paint it off the car. If it's repairable. Silverstone paint is more than just a gray color, and has metallic in it... I would think it would be pretty hard to match it up yourself.

Have a body shop fix it. You won't make it look anything as good as they can.

There's paint shop near me, they mix paint in spray cans, they mix it based on VIN provided, do you think they will be able to mix it up correctly?

I don't know but I wouldn't count on a VIN matched color being exact. I bought the Honda branded touch-up and it is quite a bit darker than my stock Sebring color. My guess is that it may or may not match.

Unless you are a skilled auto painter, bring it to a shop.
Mine is going in for a front bumper painting in a couple of weeks.

If it's going to be mixed at a local shop, I think your chances for an exact match are much better. Take your car to the shop and they should be able to machine analyze the exact color be fore you buy and regardless of the VIN.

I tried the custom mix spray can from a local auto paint supply store...not even close! Ended up having to take mine to a shop.
