new owner in western washington
Hello all,
Names Jeremy, new member from Olympia, Washington. 40 years old, still feel young enough to drive the hell out of this car though. Active Duty officer in the Air Force. I've been looking for a moderatley used AP1 for about 6 months now. It will be garaged most of the year, come out when it's sunny (which isn't often enough in the dreary northwest), and will get track use a few times a year. Daily driver is an 09 BMW 335, lightly modified. Couldn't ask for a better blend of power, handling, and luxury. But, since I got into track days ,and got to drive a friends S2000, I've been looking for something a little more hard edged.
Earlier this week I found this yellow 2001 with the coveted hardtop on the other side of the state. Car only has 23,700 miles. 3 owners, second owner was a Honda salesman. current owner is an older gentleman in the aviation industry that is out of the country half the year. He's driven it 1,200 miles since 2008. The asking price was a few thousand lower than higher mileage cars in the Seattle area. Seemed too good to be true, but a freind of mine in Spokane checked it out and said I need to drive over and snatch this baby up. Making the 5 hour drive this weekend, unless my friend is full of shit I should be back home with her on Sunday. I'm pretty active on Bimmer forums and have learned tons from the helpful members of that forum. Hope to do the same here. Once I figure out how to post pics i'll put a few up.

Jeremy, good luck with the purchase. I bought my yellow 2001 two years ago with 49,000 miles on it , it now shows 68,500 miles. It's been as durable as a rocking chair and much more fun to sit in and drive. Please post pics when ownership becomes a reality.
The five hour drive across state was well worth it. Car was even better than I expected. The drive back home was made through southeastern washington. Wide-open spaces, few cars, no cops. And then over White Pass which is full of nice twisties and not too much traffic. Attached are a few pics of the S in eastern Washington, and of the S and my 335 on the trek home.
First impressions: The S is like a go-kart. Very direct steering, great road feel and steering feedback. Amazing gearbox. So easy to shift fast, throws are half what they are in the 335. Aftermarket exhaust sounds great, but is a bit louder than i'd like. Less body roll than my 335, but also much less stability at high speeds. In a baron stretch of highway in the Hanford nuclear reservation got her up to 141. Pretty damn good for a naturally aspirated 2 liter engine. The S perfectly compliments my stable. The 3 as my daily driver is comfortable, quiet, fun, very fast, gobs of torque from 1300 rpm, and refined. The S is raw, loud, light, and gives you all the power you need as long as you rev her. Thanks to my friend Kyle for forcing me to drive one last year.
