New S2000 owner
Hi everyone.
I just bought a used high mile 2000 S2000.
Although I've done some amateur car racing in my past (SCCA stuff, graduate of Bob Bondurant's track program back in 1997), I'm more into motorcycles.
I ride them all year in all weather (I'm from NY, so yes, even in the snow). I'm that crazy guy you see that rides a sportbike in rain, light snow, shine, 20 degree F temps, etc.
I've gone cross country on a sportbike (35 days, one drawstring backpack, best time of my life), I track them, I do all my own work on them, I even did my grocery shopping on a bike...they were my life.
Anyway, I just relocated to Arlington VA and sold my bikes. I was seriously in a depression without a single bike to ride. I would've bought another one but my wife recently quit her job (back to school for her master's) so we're trying to be wise with our finances.
My wife and I decided that spending 10K on a new bike that only gets ridden once a week (due to my new job) isn't smart with our current financial situation. But she gave the OK to spending money on something that gets more bang for the buck...a fun daily driver.
I picked up a really cheap S2000 (let's just say it's cheaper than getting another motorcycle). It has 100K and the paint is not salvageable (dozens of nicks, scratches, swirls, dings, etc). But mechanically it was sound. Within a month of ownership I have replaced TCT, adjusted valves, changed fluids (diff, tranny, oil), and got 4 new tires. The car runs great.
The S2000 reminds me of my favorite motorcycle. The SV650. It's slow (in motorcycle terms at least, mid 12 sec range), doesn't handle the best, etc...but for some reason that SV was always the most fun. The S2000 has that same feel, it's very playful.
The S2000 was originally just supposed to be a cheap fun commuter for the short term until my wife gets her graduate degree, but it's so much fun that I'm seriously contemplating turning it into a long term car that I'll slowly restore back to showroom condition.
It's a great car and I can see why so many people are fans.
Sure, it doesn't do 15k rpm, but 9k is keeping me happy for now.

I'm with you on the sportbikes. I rode them for about 10 years, mostly Hondas... CBR600F2, CBR900RR, RC51, CBR600RR, VFR800. The S2K reminds me of some of those bikes in many ways. Sure, it doesn't accelerate anything like them, but the feel and sound is close. Enjoy the new ride!
