Hi there

I'm new to the forum today! Hurrah!

I've recently come into a position to buy a 2 seater sports car that I've always wanted. Being passionate about driving and having done a track day or two in the past, I've known about the S2000 it's self for some time. Weighing the opposition over the last few months I have considered NC MX-5s, Audi TT Quattro Sport and 3.2's, SLK's, Boxter's etc etc and of course, the S2000.

I must admit, it wasn't the first one of the bunch I started searching for having spent a while trying to track down a nice QS TT, but, as the prices got nearer to and the past £8k for a nice example, it prompted me to consider alternatives.

I do unfortunately need to do a relatively high mileage with my work and although I hope this will decrease in the next 6 months, any car I buy will be my only car for the foreseeable future.

All running costs taken into account (insurance, RFL, reliability/service, fuel etc) it surprised me that a pre '06 S2000 comes out very close to the top of the pack, drawing about level with a 1.8T TT. In further research between the two, it seems obvious that the S2000 is the more driver focused and enjoyable car.

So, as it stands, I'm in the market for a S2000 for anywhere between £5k-£8k (a wide range since every car should of course be judged on it's own merits, a cheap car with some light rust that can be fixed up but better miles may make for a better prospect in the long run)

One thing I would say is that I wish I was in the position to make the purchase a few years ago. I recall looking at the S2000 in maybe 2010/2011 and thinking that there were many good examples to be had around the £6k mark. Now, similar examples seem to fetch north of £8k! A testament perhaps to their ongoing popularity and reliability.

Anyway, after an extremely long intro, is there any place on the forum where all the newbie questions are grouped together? Or is it case of search as you go? (I've been a long term member of other car forums so the etiquette is understood.)

Any buying/new owner tips that anyone wants to share then please do pass on your knowledge!

Many thanks

Jayson

Welcome, Jayson! You can find lots of helpful newbie FAQs pinned at the top of the Introductions section, mainly in the Intro FAQ thread. Good luck in your search!
